L.A. Gray

this song is about the LA area and the sadness that exists there. My friend Beth Smith handled the flute on this song, and me the other instruments and vocals. Drums, guitar, and bass was tracked to an old school 80-8 at 15 ips on '70s Scotch 203 1/2" tape. The rest tracked into Reaper, so it is a "hybrid" recording in the true sense.

L.A. Gray, do you know what is happening today?
LA gray, I thought the day was clear
when the sun went away in the plain
You see people everywhere, oh some don't care
when someone's down in deep despair
La gray, do you know what is happening today?

Down in this town, all I ever do is just hang around
Can't you see the way it would be if only I could ever get free?
LA Gray do you know what is happening today?

Days of pain, looking like it's going to rain
Can't you see what is really happening to me?
Don't you know or perhaps I just should go?
Go away, get away from the hang-ups of L.A.
Doesn't matter if I have no yesterday
only memories and dreams that went away L.A!

Had a dream, that the whole damn town moved away
I was standing in the light
screaming something out strife
in the middle of the California freeway!
LA Gray, did you ever really go away?
Will you see the lie?
Will you grow up alright?
Will you stay off this tide?
L.A. Gray, do you know what is happening today?

Lol....I grew up in the suburbs and worked everywhere in downtown L.A. for 35 years.

My first impression was that the music doesn't really match my experience with the depravity of the big city. The lyrics do but the melody is almost kind of upbeat. Or a better way to say this is that you could substitute happy lyrics in that one and it would work better.

The bass and kick are hyper loud in my new Sony cans. The bass is so loud that it's hard to evaluate other aspects of it.
