KRK RP5G2 or M-Audio bx5 for Rock recording?

On every other system I listen to, heavy rock sounds normal, but on the KRKs, the guitars disappear.

I would have thought with heavy rock, guitars should be pretty high in the mix?
It does worry me that you'd have to boost them, so how do more subtle guitars appear?

I'm happy to go with the bx5a's, having read and listened to alot of opinions and reviews about the KRK's, certainly on YouTube most people seem to be using them for hip hop/dance etc which is keyboard and bass heavy, and thats definitely not my thing. When all said and done I think the bx5a's must be atleast in the ball park of sounding as good as the better speakers mentioned here?

i bought rokits to get rid of those pesky guitars...damn them to hell lol


the mids are absolutely fine on my rp8s, guitars or no guitars...and i tried quite a few monitors before settling on these

Are any of these monitors better for being positioned close to a wall ? Just realised the BX5a's are rear ported, will that effect how they sound?

The KRK's are front ported, Go listen to some speakers and see what you think, I happen to like the KRK's, I listen to Classic and modern rock, I record rock and I haven't had any issues with the sound of them translating to other speakers and according to the spec's they are flatter than the other speakers. I really don't think they'd lie about the specs, they wouldn't have been around long if they did.

well, thats a whole nother can of worms. Even the best monitors out there will be pretty ineffective in a non-treated or poor acoustic environment. Check out the studio building forum here...
