I may be able to get a pair of KRK 6000 (passive) monitors for around $315 with shipping, is this a good deal? It was on ebay but the reserve was never met and the guy emailed me back after the auction was over so I think he may let me have them for the reserve price.

I have a Mackie 1400i power amp, which I've heard is very good for PA's, but kinda sucks for studio use. This is my main issue here, because I don't want good speakers and a bad amp. Because from what I've heard, the amp is just as important (if not more important) than the speakers. And I don't know when I would be able to afford a better amp, so whatever I get I'll be stuck with for a while. So should I try to save up an extra $90 and get the Yorkville YSM-1p actives instead, or go for the 6000 passives?

I've heard the Yorkvilles are very good (and that's what I've been saving up for), but then I saw the KRKs and I've heard they are very good also... and now I'm kinda torn both ways because the krks would probably be better speakers, but the amp would probably be worse and offset the better speakers...

Any input on the matter would be greatly appriciated. :)

Here's the description on ebay...

Opinions anyone?

I should probably email him soon and let him know I'm interested if I decide to get them, but I still don't know if it'd be worth it if I don't have a good power amp....

If theyre anything like the 7000B, go for it. Those are passive and go for about $1k. You hear everything in an unhyped way, the soundstage is gigantic, you feel like youre in the music instead of in front of it and unlike every other KRK speaker the top end is not hyped.

I got a pair of 7000Bs on "permanent loan" from a recording pal. They rock out.

Thanx for the replies.

I actually emailed him shortly after I wrote that post here... I didn't want to take the cance of missing out on them, because I actually wasn't the highest bidder.... when I went to place my bid, ebay wouldn't let me log on for some stupid reason and I missed placing my bid (luckly the other guy didn't meet the reserve price). But I did email him before I tried to bid asking the shipping price and he emailed me back after the bid was over and said that the reserve was $275 plus about $40 for shipping, and if I was interested to let him know. So I wrote back and said I could do everything (including shipping) for $275, because I need to make sure I have enough money to regeister for my college classes, which I have to pay in less than a month (and the $275 was kinda pushing it)... and he hasn't emailed me back so I don't know if I'm gonna be able to get them because I couldn't meet his reserve price. He may have sold them to the other guy (who had the high bid) if he made a better offer than me... but do wish he'd at least let me know so I can get on with my life. :D

I'm still hoping he just hasn't checked his email yet... cause I want those speakers!! :)
