Korg? Roland? Yamaha? Other?

I have Cakewalk9, Korg X3 and Alesis Sr16..but nothing good is happening. Wondering if should also get a newer workstation.

I want the best bang for the buck...$2,500 USD (or under) price range.

I'm burned-out wrestling with technology instead of having fun being creative. Ease of use is important. What is out there?

... hmm.. you can't be talking about the K2500SW-X ... so you must be talking about the K2500RS, right? the sample option rack mount thing... or do you mean simply with sampling options? :confused: there are so many :D

aren't they pretty hard to get yo' filthy hands on though? the new line is the 2600's

imo it's either a kurzweil or a motif... they do pretty much the same (talking very general here...) , but the motif is more sound-expandable (can be expanded with ASM and FM synthesis systems) while the kurzweil can take up 128 megs of sampling ram while the motif only take 64...

i haven't tried the kurzweil 2600s yet but i can't wait.. i think it's gonna be killer..
 
The K2600 is pretty sweet. Sucks that Kurzweil still only has 48note polyphony. The K2600R would be my choice out of those three.

The Triton and Motif are both pretty cool. I would get a rack if you already have a controller. No need to waste money on a big workstation.
 
K2500 or K2600 either one is sweet. And I mean the keyboard, not the rack.
 
Hey Dudes! Thanks for the input.

I like the idea of being able to add samples. Should I stay with a workstation or get more into PC production? Read something about Sonar having the ability to work with samples. Sorry if I'm swaying away from the focus of this forum.

For the budget you mentioned, the Yamaha 2816 will make you happy.

It really is a little box with a big PC inside of it. It is a bit slower to navigate but I think there is a mouse option. I don't use a mouse on my 2816 and it just takes a few seconds longer to move the cursor where you want it.

Best feature? THE RESULTANT SOUND.

For a little under 2k, you will have a DAW that will do nice things.

Are there better "things?" Of course. I'm just telling you that, after the ^&%^^$&* learning curve, it's a great unit.

The Kurzweil's will read and playback samples even without the sampling option.

Sonar, Logic and other software will handle sample playback to some extent but not as well as a real sound module.
