Ok cool

Well thats one good reply. anyone else??????????????/

i have played it and really like it except for one thing; only 4 voice polyphony! i know most people don't need more than that, but i certainly do...

I also found that the four voice polyphony was prohibitive to a purchase.

In any event, if I were going to get one, I'd get the MS200r instead of the keyboard.

Cheaper by hundreds and otherwise identical. I have plenty of MIDI controllers, so I wouldn't need to get another one.

Anyway, I suspect that's just me.

Have you tried the Roland JP8000?

Carl

Yeah sounds good

Yeah actually I am looking into the Rack Model. Now I have a roland XP-80. Can I control the ms2000r through my roland XP?? I am not really educated in the ways of MIDI yet. Hit me back

Yes you can control it using that synth. People bitch about 4 notes of polyphony, but in most ways it's plenty. You don't hear people whine about minimoogs, ms20's and the like. And all those old synths were monophonic! You could always layer it if you had to.

It's true that I have a monophonic synth that I wouldn't part with until the day I die, but that thing's authentic analog and not a modeler. If I'm going to spend anything over $500 for a brand new synth (be it modeller or just plain old digital), I'd better be able to get at least 8 note polyphony or it's no deal. Under $500 (like say $200) would be a different story. :p

you said it... with 8 voices i might have bought one, but 4??? that's the most stupid polyphony ever, and on a V/A synth!! i mean... if it had been on a real analogue synth i could have understood it, but on a V/A??? what's up with that?

I'm shopping for a synth myself. I've been to the music store several times now and spent quite a bit of time playing with all of the current big names - Nord Lead, Access Virus, Novation SuperNova, Waldorf Q. Still, every time I go back to it I can't get over the fact that, to my ears, the MS2000 just sounds far more phatt and "real".

Now, I know the MS2000 is nowhere near as powerful as these other synths... but the sound.... I just can't get over the sound.

At this point I know almost nothing about midi sequencing and such. I'm a hardcore Acid user and I'm simply looking for the ability to create my own sounds. I'll put it all together after the fact. So, I think I'm convinced. I'm getting an MS2000R. :D

Im caught between the MS2000 and the JP8000. I dig the sound of them both, but the JP8000 has bigger controls. Ill be using the synth for live gigs.

I just saw Fila Brazilla a couple of weeks ago and one of the guys (don't know his name - don't you love that about electronica :D) was playing a JP8000. It sounded great. The MS2000 sounds better IMHO, but maybe the live performance characteristics are why he chose the Roland? Hadn't thought of that.

Thanks for the info

Thanks for all the help everyone. I think I am going to get the MS2000r. Anyone else have any comments on the unit.

nope.. it's a great piece of equipment... just those fukker 4 voices..

I played a JP8000, it sounded good, but I think the Korg has a thicker sound. I really dig the pads and bass out of that synth. The JP has a better Arpeggiator IMO. and also has the full 4 octave keyboard where the Korg on has 3.5, which I think is kinda wierd. If i can find a used JP for around $800. Then thats what Im getting, but if not a new MS2000 for $750 cant be beat.

Just ordered my MS2000R and got a very good deal.:D

Here's the quote:

Now these are great prices!

I was hesitant to give out my credit card number to these guys since they only have a PO BOX and the quote came from an @aol.com email address rather than their own domain name. So I searched the yahoo yellow pages in Montgomery Alabama and found Bailey Brothers Music with a link to the Wholesale Music web site. Called another local music store who confirmed that they were indeed a legitimate business - but they are a "discount retailer rather than an actual wholesaler" . Call me paranoid, but it put my mind at rest.:)

Not that Im a wuss or anything, but I'll let you be the guini pig first and let me know if it works out. But now that I know that, I can probably go to Guitar Center and theyll match the price and I wont have to pay for shipping.

Unless you're in Oregon or Delaware you'll have to pay sales tax, which will be more than the $15 shipping I paid. I also like the idea of giving my money to a small business rather than a national chain.

But, hey whatever works best for you... go for it!

I am thinking about getting an MS2000 myself ... however, I've just seen that
musiciansfriend.com offers an Oberheim OM12 for the same price ($799 instead
of $1,999)!! Since the OM12 has 12-voice polyphony, isn't that clearly a better choice?

Cheers
