After 11 years of dedicated service the battery in my Korg M1-R died. I called a couple of local electronic music repair places to find out what it would cost to install a new battery.
One place: $65.00 plus the cost of the battery($7.00). And the guy told me he couldn't do it on the spot. I would have to leave the unit with him overnight.
Another place: $50.00 plus the cost of the battery($5.00). He could do it on the spot if I made an appointment.
For the money they were asking I thought it was probably a tricky procedure and better not attempt it myself. I was ready to pay the money when just for the hell of it I opened the unit myself. There was the battery, a lithium wafer (CR 2032), in plain view on the main board and easily accessible. I gave it a gentle push foward, with care taken not to damage an adjacent capacitor, and out it popped. I went to a battery shop, bought a replacement ($3.00), brought it home and slid it into place. No problem.
