Anyone have an oppinnion and/or review about the Karma?
 
the stronger arpeggiator would be great for Dance and live i'd think
but i'm only speaking from hear/say it just that i know this cat who sees a difference in performance between the triton and the karma (he does Hip Hop that could be a reason) plus there is the sampler...
 
The Karma is every bit the Trion is less the sampler!!! If you are someone who uses samples of other peoples music then the Triton is for you. The Karma has the EXACT SAME synthesis engine as the full fledged Triton. What he Karma offers is unique tools to be used in the creative process that captilized on your musicianship skills. I'm not knocking samplers but, keyboard players who play and sequence music would get much more from the KARMA!!!!
 
I realize they are based on the same synth engine but for whatever reason the Triton sounds better than the Karma IMO. Everytime I mess around with the Karma it just sounds cheap to me.
 
My brother has a Triton and when we play together with my Karma we somtimes load sounds from each other and the sounds sound identical coming from both the Triton and the Karma. But everybody is entitled to their own opinion.
 
KARMA engine

The KARMA function is truly great and inspirational. If you like to put up a simple drum track and start plaing and inventing, you will love the KARMA. However, if that is not your thing the KARMA may not be for you. Furthermore, the TRITON has more output options. Therefore, if you intend on making sequences on the instrument that you wish to bring to a studio and record, you will be better off with the TRITON. Also, as said above, the TRITON has sampling whereas the KARMA does not. This may not be a problem if you have either a seperate hardware or software sampler. Frankly, the way software samplers are going, I would seriously consider the KARMA for its functions since you cannot get that out of any software whereas you can get all the sampling you want out of software. The KARMA will add something you do not or cannot otherwise obtain. The additional features on the TRITON such as sampling can be gotten elsewhere if needed. The fact is, ultimately, the are the same instrument with the same sound engine, samples and sounds.

Whether or not you like Herbie Hancock is your personal business however, it is indisputable that he is one of the premier keyboard players of our time. He has also been playing synths for quite some time. His latest, whatever it is called, uses the KARMA extensively. You might want to give that a listen. If you do, one thing to keep in mind is that Mr. Hancock likely has access to some of the best programmers around. I am certain KORG itself would provide him with a little extra help if needed and he works with some of the best engineers and musicians. Certainly that will have an affect on the ultimate sound you hear. The KARMA functions, as they come out of the box, are quite good. The art of using this remarkable creative tool is not so simple and will take alot of patience and work. There are sites on the net dedicated to the KARMA where you can exchange sounds, programs and information on the operation of the keyboard. KARMA is a world unto itself and a pretty good one at that. By the way, there is a site on Yahoo for the KARMA where Stephen Kay, the inventor, answers almost all the posts. That is truly a great resource. You should check that out before purchasing one becuase it will give you an idea of all that can and is being done with the KARMA and it includes some jousts from dissatisfied useres that might enlighten you as well.
