Korg D1200?

Hey Everyone,

I was looking for a digital multitrack about a year ago and ended up not having the money at the time to get one. I am in better shape this year to get one and from what I remembered from my thread duscussions last year the Korg D12 and D1600 came highly recommended by a lot of posters.

In doing some online store searching I came across a Korg D1200. Is this a new machine? I also saw that it looks like it has phantom power where the other Korg machines did not. Can anyone confirm this?

I'm basically after any info I can get that is current on this and other Multitracks. I know technology goes stale fast and it has been a year since I seriously looked last.

Any recommendations/information/suggestions on the Korg or other models you think might be good for me to look at would be great.

I'm looking for a 12 or 16 track hard disk recorder around 1000-1200 dollars.

I've got an old Korg D8. Rock solid. Sounds very good. Easy to use. I doubt you'd go wrong with the d1200. I will probably upgrade to the d1600 next year. I don't have any experience with anything else. Good luck.
 
Oh yeah, you can get the Akai 16 track for about $1200. It is reputed to be very good. Check it out.

I have the D1600. I haven't been able to do much with it yet because I'm still putting the finishing touches on my studio but I have played with it a bit and it is GREAT! To answer your question, it does have phantom power for 4 channels. Of course you can change what track is what so you can have phantom power for all channels just not simultaniously. I think that the touch screen is the best feature of it. It has a very user friendly way about it self.

You might want to get onto www.korg.com to check out all of the specifics but I think you will be impressed with everything that they pack into this machine and the price that it is...I got mine for about $1500 US.

Now once I get really deep into recording with this thing, I may change my mind but I just don't see that happening. Of course the 40 gig hard drive and the CD-RW that comes with it is a huge plus also.

Yes,the D 1200 superseded the D 12.
The Korg website should answer your question on phantom power.
There are some good recent threads in "Other Equipment" that you should read.Do a search for:
Yamaha (the AW16g is just out on the market,and in your price range.)
Korg (D 12,D 16,D 1200,D 1600)
Akai (DSP 12,DSP 16)
Figure out what features are important to you,and do your research.All of the above machines have their advocates here.From user reviews and online window shopping,I'm attracted to all 3 brands above.
