maybe reel is speaking of the live feel to some of the kiss stuff (i've only heard some).

Well I guess I could dub in some crowd noise like they did for KISS-Alive. ;)

Yeah, well,... I'm just trippin' then.

No doubt.

The mix is swell, though.

I was thinking, it would be so cool to record actual explosions to put on KISS covers. Yeah, man! ;)

Lol. I'm gonna start putting explosions into all my cover songs. Two things every song needs: a pick-slide and an explosion. :)

Cool! The intro maintanes the sound your after, but is much kinder on the ears. The kick & bass fill up the song nice!
Sounding great!

Sounds awesome!Pretty true to the original! Solo definitely has a Ace tone/style, drums sound real cool as well....just picked up that new cd box set with all there live cd's in 1 bundle remastered...its been great to blast out Alive! and AliveII again!!.... There is a couple Kiss tunes I always wanted to mess with, Parasite, and 100,000 years...used to play those on Alive! over and over....
Great job Greg!!!

Okay, now...

I'd say that now that the mix sounds generally balanced, it could use a slight overall boost in the highs, say 10k~12.5kHz, perhaps. The mix is slammin' great, though I'd like to hear a little more sssizzzzzzle in the top end over guits/vox/cymbals. A ~very~ slight boost, eh? However, I think the bass track is "there". YMMV! ;)

I've always considered popping off some old KISS covers. I may not have the chops, though. Those leads are screaming! You know it! ;)

Great job man! You rock! ;)

Ditto on that. I again tweeked the hi knob on my board a hair up earlier when listening and was pleased with the results. I would leave the begining alone though if you try tweeking :D

Doesn't every BOSTON song have a pick slide ?
Newest version sounds quite good. Has the feel ALIVE had, compared to DTK.
Good enough for a KISS tribute CD
Gonna check out some of your other tunes, too.

on this episode of EXTREME COVER SONGS..........

Hey thanks a lot everybody. :)

I'll fiddle with boosting the highs tonight and post up another mix.

Thanks a lot for listening and giving feedback. :)

Okay, for anyone interested, here's the newer mix. Brought the kick and bass a little bit up and a little bit out with some EQ. The original version is still at the top of the page for comparison. Thanks for everyones input. :)

VERY cool! I really DIG those old Pre-Alive Kiss tunes!

For those POOR underprivileged folks who've NEVER heard their early stuff, here's the original studio version of Rock Bottom, though, it's been 'tweaked' by me for a personal compilation of 'Early Years'!

Kiss - Rock Bottom - Studio Version - Remastered!

Yeah - there's the bass guitar now..... That intro is still pretty crispy though...I keep turning it down then back up when the rockin' part comes in. That's on headphones though so I'm not sure it's quite so bad on speakers.
I'm not sure you need more highs - I vote "no" to increasing the highs... :)
I will check it out when you post a new mix.

Great job..... :D

That cut is pretty close to Greg's mix - Kiss did a pretty good job copying him (lol). The intro is actually pretty crispy on the original too...hmmm...
Lots of crackles on the mp3 at the beginning... The bass on Greg's latest mix is pretty similar to the original...cool.

SMC - Thanks a lot. Yeah the early KISS stuff is great. They get a bad rap from a lot of more modern-minded rock fans because of their theatrics and make-up and shit, but to me their early stuff is just some good straight-up rock and roll. I've got a ton of other early KISS covers in the vault, so stay tuned! ;)

Ido - Thanks for taking the time to listen again. The intro is pretty bright, but thats how my buddy wants it so I'm leaving it be. I'm pretty happy with the rest of it. I'm gonna do another mix with a tamer intro just for my own personal copy. I'll post it up later. Thanks again.

Yeah...they did, didn't they...shame on them!

Yeah...I did a quick rip of a CD...that's been pretty *USED*. but it was just for the 'few' who haven't heard the original a million times, like myself! :D

Yeah...I thought so...Greg did a great job on the bass...Gene would be proud!

I can't wait to hear them!

yeah...I think Kiss did their best work up to Alive! The production might NOT have been that great...but the tunes were cool!

Kiss - Alive is still one of my fav albums after all these years..Eddie Kramer did an awesome job on it!

Lol. Thanks. I'm way better looking than Gene, but he's somehow had way more women. ;)

The intro is pretty bright on the original version, but in a good way. On my version, its just kinda harsh. I didn't personally do any of the guitars except the bass, so theres a few things I'd personally do differently if they were my tracks. The electric rhythms during the 'rock' part were recorded direct and needed quite a bit of trickery to get sounding usable. The intro was recorded direct as well with an electric/acoustic guitar, so thats probably why it sounds the way it does. Direct recording blows.

I think that *might* have had something more to do with, than his looks! :D
