Kinda OT: No icons in my notification area

This is kinda OT and kinda not. I'm reformatting a computer for a friend. He's wanting to use it for recording and was having some hard times with it. I re-installed XP, installed all the mobo drivers (he's using on board sound card because of budget issues).

Here's the issue, though. Nothing is showing up in the notification area. No icons are there at all. For example, the soundcard is working and there's not a little speaker in the notification area. The volume control is what should pop up when clicking on that...and it works fine. I checked it out. Also, I loaded ASIO4ALL on there and it should also have a notification icon. But nothing is there.

So...

Any ideas?

This is really silly but they’re not just hidden are they? (It’s a setting in taskbar properties).

God, I hope not. I'll look like a real bafoon. I'll check when I get home. Chalk it up to working on it in the wee hours of the morning. That'll be my excuse if that's what it is.
