I started coming here a few months ago when I got back into recording and songwriting after a long hiatus. . . Life's diversions, family, raising teens, subsequent divorce, blah blah, etc. . But my inner need to write and record is a strong one- - an obsession, maybe an addiction. . Perhaps some of you can understand that. . My talents weigh on the songwriting/arranging/producing side of things, and although I've got quite alot of recording experience, It's been mostly by hunt-and-peck trial and error, so I still, after all these years, have alot to learn. .
But I was quite hesitant to hit these boards because most recording forums seem to have a few types of members - -
The Gear Snobs, which I am diametrically opposed to, particularly on a HOME recording forum- - But there are very, very few around here, which is nice.
There are however some Tech-Snobs, who have, or appear to have, an amazing talent for the science of recording, which I respect, but they often seem to be book-smart but socially inept. . . Completely lacking in social skills of any kind, and quite negative in attitude. . Recording can be tedious and detail oriented and may attract that type of person into the technical aspect of it all, IDK. . .
The Skeptics, who feel it's their job to find any and every discrepancy or hole in a members post to "expose" them, when often the posts are intentionally incomplete, or the member are just trying to spare the forum unecessary personal details.
The Troll Caller- - I've been accused of trolling myself simply because I may post a funny or unecessary comment, usually because the subject has already been addressed and answered by people alot more knowlegable (sp?) than myself. . . . I started a thread once that flamed out of control, and never saw that, or the attitudes coming, but I learned a bit also. . .
So I'm kinda bummed 'cause I have a few things to learn, and I really enjoy sharing, but I really don't want to, 'cause it just isn't worth the trouble sometimes. . .
Maybe we all are each of those types at times, IDK. . I do really appreciate the amount of knowledge around here, particularly since, as I stated earlier, my own abilities are not so tangible or technical and are quite abstract. .
But to sum up my rant. . . I love my tape machines, and I love crafting songs, and I want to keep coming here, so can everyone just stand-down, and take a breath, and re-group, and think twice before hitting "submit" ?. . . 'Cause I really have no other place to go where I might learn what I need to, and there's no other place I belong since my gear is all analog. . .
Thanks for reading this. I'm not picking on any one person at all. .. So please don't think that I am. . . We are all capable of being anyone at any time, so let's just be civil and respectful. Thank you ! !
