I recently stumbled across this foam company on ebay, and I am totally shocked at how good their prices are. I haven't heard anybody mention them before, so I don't have anyone to vouch for the quality yet, but on ebay, they have 1500+ positive and are a straight 100% feedback... I really doubt if their product was bogus, that many people would give them praise...

Anyway, check out their site if you are needing a great deal ons tudio foam.

This is the order I am about to be getting in, and the price for the whole thing, including shipping half way across the country...

16 - 12" x 12" x 2" Wedge is $1.12 x 16= $17.92
12 - 12" x 12" x 3" Wedge is $1.57 x 12= $18.84
24 - 12" x 12" x 1.5" Wedge is $0.90 x 24= $21.60
4 - 12" x 12" x 4" Pyramid is $2.02 x 4= $8.08
1 - 24" x 48" x 2" Pyramid is $8.96

2 - 6" Corner Kits, which each consist of the below...
(1) Block 6" x 6" x 6"
(3) Base Absorbers 24" x 6" x 6"
(1) Free Gift
is $11.85 x 2= $23.70

The total comes to $99.10 and $20.00 for shipping.
I am so stoked about this, and will let you guys know if it is decent or not...
I will be ordering it most likely tomorrow.

you should call them on false advertising for saying it's "soundproof foam" haha. but really that's a ton of foam you are ordering...what size is the room? might be overkill...you might want to shift the focus toward bass trapping.

I'm curious about these guys too. I've seen the eBay listings, and they're close enough for me to drive to.

Despite my control room planning (and lack thereof), I need to get more broadband absorption in there.

Let us know how it works out.

I'd be very suspicious. Ask them to email you a PDF of the original test data on their site, just as they received it from the acoustic testing lab. Then let us know what they tell you. Another eBay foam vendor in their same state is Foam By Mail, and they've been proven fraudulent:

So I wonder if this isn't just the same company using a different name. It might not be! Then again it might.

Also... BIG DEAL IMHO... what's the Fire rating on their foam?

Yes, I too have been jipped....

Yeah, I bought from Foambymail on Ebay once. There was a HUGE difference in my room acoustics once I switched to Auralex foam. When the mix really matters, spend the extra duckets and get the good stuff IMO.

Exactly. Stay away from foam. Get the good stuff. OC703.

have a look at the link in my sig. broadband absorption isn't too hard to make yourself!

(thread hijack alert)

I've got 4' x 8' of 4" OC703 on a single (long) wall behind the monitors, and the opposite wall is a makeshift angled wall made of Tectum. Unfortunately, the tectum wall reflects more than it absorbs. It's fine in the optimum listening position, but the low-end changes drastically if I even lean back in my chair :(

what's in your corners?

Right now, nothing. The control room is pretty small....

(roughly 8' x 12')

WHy not line the Tectum with 703?

I didn't have enough of either to do both walls. I probably don't need the whole 4x8 sheet on the facing wall, but given the short distance of the monitors to that wall, I needed something substantial there.

The angled Tectum wall was John Sayers' idea. ...kind-of a best-use-of-what-I-had type solution (both the 703 and the Tectum were construction leftover freebies). In either case, the Tectum doesn't work very well without a bunch of insulation behind it.

You think maybe I should place the 703 behind the Tectum and get something else for behind the monitors?

It would probably be a decent idea to put the oc on that back wall behind you, and another thing you might try is angling your monitors slightly downard so as the sound passes your ears and hits that wall behind you, it will leave your monitors angled even more in a downward manner and that should give you a little more room for moving your listening position. You could use auralex Mo Pads to accomplish this using the extra angle adjusters, and that might help in other departments also.

I already have them sitting on a pair of MoPads :)

Here's a slightly older pic, before the angled wall and other gear. 'scuse the mess....

I'm pretty sure the monitors are too close to the wall to go without treatment, unfortunately. Maybe I just spring for more 703 and cover both walls with it?

89 let us know when you get the foam. At that price I might get some and experiment with it. If it dont work Ill use it for something else.

I wouldn't use it if it was free, but that's just me..........

I would definately treat the rear and sides before worrying about the front. But yeah, treat it all if you can.
