Have an Iron Cobra dbl kick. Has more adjsutments than Carter has pills (I think). Anyway, I know its probably drummer choice, but, how far back from the head is your beater. And how flat is your pedal when the beater hits ? Is it an inch or less from bottoming out ? Gimme some help and dimension guys and gals. Im up for trying anything.

I think Tama suggests that the beater sits about 4 to 5 inches back from the drum head. On second thought I might be thinking of Derek Roddy of Hate Eternal. As far as the foot board is concerned I think mine is several inches from bottoming out. Hope this helps.

a lot of it has to do with your playing style, mostly power vs. speed.

the more power you want, the higher the tension, the further away from the head, and the longer travel of the pedal. for speed you want less tension, closer to the head, shorter pedal travel.

i like a nice balance of the two, but i'm probably slightly more on the power side than the speed side, which makes it very difficult to do fast double-kick runs for any length of time, but i find it worth the sacrifice. i really like to make my kick slam.

The Cobra has that offset cam which allows power hits with the beater closer. Well its suppose to. I have it now set about 3" from the head and when depressed against the head the pedal is about 1/2" from bottoming out. Gonna try raising the pedal up a few inches and the beater back to 4" or 5" and see how it goes. Thanks for the response.
