I don't know the name but like I said, I better go back later cause he sounded like he was gonna kill somebody.

I am a D6 fan myself... but this weekend I had the chance to play with a SM91 (The Shure boundary mic now replaced by the Beta 91) and was blown away. I am not trading in my D6 any time soon, but as a another tool in the shed, it is certainly on the list. I was really impressed with the defined slap it added. This was just a 20" maple Yamaha kick with a bath towel as a muffle and a pin stripe batter.. nothing fancy... but it really sounded great.

I believe I'll get the FK-2 it's cheap and I can always replace it.

Thanks for your help guys, you've also opened my eyes to the world of Audix, i'd love to get a D6 but for the price of the FK-2 I'll hold back for a little bit.

Thanks.

Actually I ended up getting the Avlex Superlux PRA-218B as it looks like a copy of the D6.

This is a clip of a PRA-218b

No EQ or compression.
It is a 22 inch Kick with a 16 inch hole in the center. Mic is in 1/2 way slightly pointed to the side.

I like to have the front head off when recording but sometimes the lugs rattle a little bit. So I just cut a big hole in the head.
It was a Rockstar custom with I-Cobra dbl kick pedal. Felt beaters.

Not sure what kind of head. Also had a pillow in the kick.

I was using a 57 for kick for a while , sounded ok . I started pre mixing the drums (2 o/h, snare and kick) and sending it to a stereo channel so eq'ing had to be kept to a minimum due to restrictions of the mixer. I picked up a d6 and I can basically stick it anywhere in the bassdrum without drastic amounts of eq. (I back off a bit around 80 and boost a bit around 4k) I find the pillow up against the skin with a weight on it is a necessity, pretty big bottom end.
