kick drum mics

I've always liked Alex Van Halen's sound on kick. Any suggestions.

I thought they were using triggered samples for most of their albums starting with 1984. That's what it always sounded like to me. It's hard to use 80's rock as a reference because samples were so popular then and still are today for a lot of commercial music.

Shure Beta 91 on the inside, and sennheiser/evolution e602 on the outside has given me good results.

Mmmm. That sounds nice. Can I borrow your setup sometime?
