Hey Guys! What would be a good kick drum mic? I am considering either a Sennheiser evolution e602 or a Shure Beta 52A. What would be better? And what would be the price for it?

Thanks

FWIW, I love my atm25 on my kick. Gives a nice sound, and it's easy to place. Can be had new for about $140. There are places trying to sell it for $200, but you can pricematch with MF or some other big name place if you feel th others are too sketchy. Try Humbuckersmusic.com.

Yeah, ok. But what about the Sennheiser evolution e602? I might have the chance to get one a bit cheaper. So is it good?

md421 is good, and very versatile. I'd like to try out the atm25 sometime.
Beta52 is cool too, at least on stage.

I would go for the Shure B52 or Sennheiser 602 any day over the AT mics (unless it's the dual element one).

so it means the 602 is a a good mic?

To answer your question...

I have an e602 that I have used on kicks both for recording and for live PA miking, and have been very happy with it. Had a hard time keeping the drummer for one of the live bands from taking it home with him :)

602 may be alright... but that D6 is supposed to be a dream.

If you're doing metal - your name might suggest that - the Shure 52 is great for that. Good mic to pick up the "click" sound. Should be around $189.

Red5 Audio RVD1 also a mic that's killer. Runs around $130.

ugh, I just noticed, I was talking about the wrong mic all the time. -.-

I meant the e901, not e602.
Sorry...
Is this one a good choice?
The Shure is bit to expensive for me, and as I already said, I may have the chance to get a Sennheiser mic cheaper.

In threads like this people are always talking about their own favorite kick mic, but there are so many mics that do very well on kick.

RE20, U47 fet, MD421, D112, D12, M88, M201, D6, B52, the list goes on.

For the last 10 years I've been using an old D12 inside and an MD421 MK2 outside.

The D112 is the only mic I'll ever need for kick - I don't need to play around with getting a good sound... It just rocks. Going from a 57 to a D112 was like taking wool out of my ears. The difference is very stark.

I use the Beta 52. I like the oomph and click I can get. I had the D112 too but at the time I could only keep one. Bummer.
Luck to you in your quest................
Kel

I have extensively used Beta 52's, beta 91's, senn 602's, senn 421's, AKG D112's, AT 25's, Auidx D6's, and Audix D4's, and EV RE20's on kicks. For any kind of rock music the AT 25 and the EV RE20, and the senn 421 never makes the cut. Of the rest, I really couldn't care which one I have. They all need a little help, just in different spots. I have not used the new sennheiser 900 series yet so i can not comment on that. I do like the Audix D6, but I personally don't find it any better than any of the others. Just a little different.
