Any recomendations on a kick drum mic for about $100? Thanks!

what kind of sound are you going for?

rocking punchy- used AT atm25
full, jazzy- used cad e100

if you want to buy new, i had a K&K BO7 for a while, pretty decent mic. made by germans living on the oregon coast. they sell them on ebay for around $100. nice little pseudo shock mount. they are really nice people. the BO7 has a lot of top end so it has a more "modern sound" (more modern than i liked). WHOA, i take it back. now they are $200! ok nevermind.

probably more punchy...take a listen...www.lustingkay.com

I didn't like the way the kick frum came out last time, but a LARGE part of that was that I saved the drum track as an mp3...then the mix as an mp3...I lost a LOT of quality along the way and am actually impressed they came out as good as they did considering my rookie mistakes.

yea, for $100 go for that atm25

but, listening to your tunes, i think you might be better off with the d112. i think they are in the high $100s used...

what about the songs makes you think that...I am always curious to see what direction I should be looking at. right now i am thinking B3 for the vox. Thanks!

really, the B1 is good for that? I would LOVE it if it were because that seems like a VERY versitile mic

well you seem to be going for that new rock/punk sound? am i right? i am defining that as the number bands. you know ____182 ____42 ____6...

if not what are some of your favorite records in terms of records that you want your band to sound like recording wise?

anyway, the b1 should be pretty good on bass drum. but i would give the edge to the CAD e100 for the electret condenser bass drum sound cause it has a little fancier internal electronics (i think it has a burr brown 2107- my e300 does and i think they are similar).

for vocals i think you should look at something a little more "tuned" for voice like the C1.

I was thinking the B3 for vox. Probably the band I am most heavily influenced by is Jimmy Eat World...especially the old stuff...Static Prevails, Clarity, etc. # bands though...that is FUNNY!

versatility anyone???

i would say get the earthworks KickPad. it's $96.97 at sweetwater. it's not mic, don't let me confuse you, but it is merely a plug that you can plug in to just about any mic and optimize it for kick drum... i would say if you have an sm57 or something laying around, try it with the KickPad. this allows you to have as many kick mics as you have mics period (allowing you to pick your favorite) instead of getting a kick mic for $100 that sounds like ass. Just a thought bro,

Jacob
