hey im having some trouble with mixing in bass drum for this band i recorded. they are a really heavy metal band, and the drummer wants something that cuts through the mix well, but not overly clicky sounding. I can get it sounding pretty decent, but theres parts where he is hitting the bass drum so fast its almost a hum, and the bass drum basically disapears during these parts, do you guys have any suggestions? I miked it with a shure PG 52 -) and i put it just inside the drum, facing right at the beater. The bass drum is tuned very nicely, and he didn't play much weaker during the double bass parts, so im not sure why its happening.

I had the same problem... I just ordered the farview drum samples, should help you get the click you are looking for.

Duct-tape a quarter to the area where the beater hits the drum head. It won't be overly-clicky, but it will cut more.
