first of all, i´m not use to write or speak in english but i hope you´ll understand :)

*second I´m not sure what to call this. i already got help, its called keying not trigging as i thought.

I record and edit in cubase 2.2 something and I´ve understood that you can trig midi with a audio track, for example a sampled bassdrum kicking in instead of the analog recorded bassdrum. And there should be a way not only to replace the trigging audio into a sample or midi, but also mix theese two sounds (recorded trigging audio track AND the sample-track) ANYONE that know how to do this?

I´ve also heard/read/picked up somewhere  that you can "cut" one audio track also using some kind of triggervalue... for example muting the bassgutiartrack with the attack from the bassdrum-track (the attack of bassdrum mutes the bassguitar for a moment) to make an illusion of tight play and it should work out pretty well, so i´ve heard...

I think both my concerns could be pretty useful, and maybe you´ll help alot of us don´t know "the magic" yet if you have a clue... please write!

thanx / samuel the swede

It's not a function of Cubase, it is a function of the plugins that you are using. You have to have plugins that allow you to do that. Once you get them, you will have to read the manual to find out how, they are all different.

For example, the GAC-1 in the Gold series compressors at kjaerhus (http://www.kjaerhusaudio.com/gac-1.php) allows side-chaining. If I'm not mistaken, it is the same or similar as keying (please correct my terminology if appropriate). It will allow the bass to duck as the kick engages. However, your sequencer will need to feed the appropriate inputs to this VST to allow this. It's not just a simple 'drop-in and go' scenario.

Yup! Key inserts and side-chains are terms that are used interchangably and mean about the same thing.

thank you all! I´ll try the GAC-1 demo and see if I get it.
