Do you guys know any decent keyboard for less than $1000 for Hip-Hop/R&B music. What do you guys think of Korg MS2000 and Korg X5D 61 Key Synthesizer. Are these keyboard good enough? Do they have a good quality sound? Souns good as those Korg Triton? Recommend any brands for hip-hop/r&b music? Thanks... :)

does it have to be a keyboard? can´t it be a sound module and a midi keyboard??? ... like the new e-mu devices?? the custom proteus or the mo´phatt....

The Alesis QS synths are very good for the price range. You can probably get a used QS-6 for around $350, and I think just about all of the models out there except for the new QS-x.2 units can be had used for under $1000. The stock sounds are only so-so for your style, but Q-Cards are available for hip-hop and rap, they go for $50-75 on-line. The build quality is real good. I've had a QS-6 for almost 4 years and I've had no problems with it.

Try the MS2000

I was asking alot of questions on here about the Korg MS2000. And i found out its a good piece of equipment for Hip-Hop. I am saving for one right now. I also own the Roland XP-80. And I make crazy beats with that now. :)

hmm... what do sound modules do? do they make midi keyboard sounds better? i currently own a casio ctk-620L. midi keyboard.. i know it sounds wack. .. hehe.. but would sound modules make it sound better? if so, would u guys recommend any cheaper/decent sound modules?

Which is better? Korg's MS2000 or Korg' X5D 61 Key Synthesizer... Are these keyboards good enough for hip-hop/r&b music?

Thanks.. :)

Sound modules are keyboards without the keyboard (no keys just guts).

You use another keyboard (usually a MIDI controller that has no built in sounds of its own) to play the sounds in the sound module.

You mentioned the Korg MS2000, so I would recommend the Korg MS2000r (the "r" stands for "rack mountable").

This is essentially all the same things that the MS2000 is with the exception of the actual keys.

That's when you pick up a MIDI controller keyboard for about $100.

I say go for Kurzweil K2000. It really rocks. Very usable presets and you can always put in 64Mb RAM and looad them samples or what nots.

To see this synth in action listen to Pink Floyd's Pulse. All the synthy shit is from Mr. K2000.

hmm... i think i'll go for ms2000, it's smaller, and it's portable :)... hmm.. i heard that emu mo phatt is a good sound module, is this better than korg's ms2000? Are there any sites that rates hardware/equipments.. like those top 5 keyboards/synths.. with reviews.. and ratings..

What should I get?

Korg's Porphecy?
Korg's MS2000/MS2000R?
Alesis - QS6.1 61-Key Expandable Synthesizer ?

They cost about $500+ each and they all good ratings from www.sonicstate.com/synth Can you guys give me suggestions on these equipments? As for now, my choice is Korg's MS2000, but can the other 2 units beat korg's ms2000? Please help me out choose.. Thanks... :)

I personally want the Prophecy, I've heard alot of really good things about it, I understand it as being a bit more vintage/classic/analogue sounding than the MS2000, don't know anything bout the Alesis. I'd go with the Prophecy, but I already got the A Station, which is compared w/ the MS2000, so I'm biased, and yup of absolutely noooo help, sorry....

there's so much difference between those modules... one is a modular synth where you basically make the sounds on your own, where the mo'phatt is based on ROM samples...

if i were you, i'd also look into the Yamaha AN200 and DX200 since these both got modular synthesis, a drum machine and various other sounds to use for hip hop...

the prophet is monophonic, which means you can't play chords.. it may sound amazing, but that's like having a guitar with only one string or playing the piano with one finger, unless you get yo'self a sampler...

for now, i'd say yamaha AN200/DX200 a mo'phatt or an ms2000r... with the ms2000r as a last choice cause of the tiny polyphony and the lack of drum and hip hop sounds on it...
hope that helped...

btw... a little comparison:
the mo'phat got 16 parts and 16 filters... i think you'd get a long, long way with that unit... the yamaha units are cool since they are modular, but they only have 4 parts... it's a matter of how much you think you'll be needing some wicked synth sounds...

thanks for your time and advice for givin me infos on what to get.. I've decided to get an ms2000 for now.. since i focus more into synth bass.. i don't really need lots of plyphony, since i'll be recordin sounds to my pc and compile them and arrange it later.. :) I just wanna go for the sound quality specially in synth bass.. :) thanks alot.. i'll probably ask you guys later if I plan to get an additional keyboard or synth.. by the way, do they offer expansion board with additional sounds for ms2000????
