Keyboard substitute for bass????

hi there, does anyone use keyboard bass sounds to substitute for a real bass? I got a roland em 25 and it's got about 12 different bass guitar sounds. I'm not a bass player, but i always tease my bassist and say " if i wanted to master the bass i'd set aside an hour for it" haha. this is untrue, however, for songwritting when a bassist isnt handy, would this work? anyone had success?

I do play bass, but sometimes I use the bass patches in my Roland Fantom-X. They sound pretty good, most of them anyway. It really depends on the sound Im looking for. But 99 times out of 100, I DI my Fender Jazz Bass.

I'll use Bass patches from my N364 or Poly61 as supplements or alternatives to a real bass part. Sometimes I'll lay out a quick bass part using something like Edirol's Super Quartet, but only as a guide until I have time to rewrite and track a proper bass part.
