keyboard pitch bender in Sonar and in general

The last post reminded me, my pitch bender only seems to go up or down a whole tone...can I change that to make it go up or down an octave using software/Sonar? It's an Edirol PCR 30 and the manual doesn't mention how to change it...

Pitch bend controller in SONAR (and so other sequencers)
sends a message of -8192 to 8192 which 0 is the default center point. It's the synth's job to translate the amount of those value to alter the pitch related...

I'm a bit of a MIDIot, so does that mean if I find out how, this can be done on the PCR-30?

I haven't worked with the PCR-30 myself, but I've used my share of MIDI-equipment. It's rather seldom that you can't adjust the pitch bend... Check Setup or something like that. :)
 
Yeah, I've always checked the programable section on the keyboard/synth before buy some. I mean, even if they offered you a great great sound on board, it won't mean a thing if you can't have total control over it. I don't use PCR-30 so I can't tell you much about it. I can do it with my KORG N364, X5D, and O5R/W in sequencer (multi) mode. Time to read your manual, brutha... :D

Ya, I've been reading the manual. It's like Greek:(

I used to have a Roland D8 (or D50? think it was a D50 - sequencer, black, had a disk drive) way back, and that was easy to change the pitch bend to anything up to a couple of octaves! But I threw it away as soon as I couldn't figure out how to SMPTE to my multitracker:D

I emailed Edirol support this morning, let's see what they say...

Edirol emailed back:

"AnswerThe software you use makes all the difference as to how much the
pitch bend lever actually adjusts. You'll notice, if you right click on
an automatable control in fruity loops, or a controllable parameter in
Cakwalk, that you can map that control to the pitch bend lever
automatically with Fruity Loops, and simply by clicking learn in
Cakewalk. This would make the lever actually control something completely
different than pitch, and it would have different start and end values.
Some synthesizers even adjust completely awkward variables with the
"pitch bend lever" and "modulation wheel". So in order to alter the
range, you may want to see about what control you have in the software.
There isn't a way you can actually adjust how the pitch bend lever sends
data... other than a recalibration."

So what do you use for as MIDI-Source? The MIDI sounds come from somewhere, right?
 
I use the Sonar and FL sounds...

Hope that's what you mean?

So when I go home, if I'm on say a channel in FL that is tied to one of it's bass sounds, I right click the channel, and it will map the pitchbender if I touch the pitchbender???

I feel a brain ache coming on.

So FL is your MIDI-source => Then you need to change the pitch in FL. :)
 
OK, I can make the pitch bender pan, set the tempo with it, do stuff I've never heard of...I can...

Wait a second holy crap I did it. Midiot a did it!

From FL:

(choose your instrument) > show channel settings > right click over pitch knob > 'link to controller' > touch the pitchblender > set the pitch value to 12 (or whatever) in the display to the right of the pitch knob.

I'm trying, but I'm going to rip this $%@#% soundcard out. This is latency, right (from what I've read):

It misses every other note I'm trying to lay down, plays notes late, it's like totally impossible. They're there on playback, but since I can't hear when I'm playing, it is totally daft - trying to ignore the sound and listen only to the metronome (I'd be fine on a guitar, but keyboard, no way). Is it going to do this to my audio/guitar too???

There are 2 M-Audio 2496's, an Audipohile and a Dio ...do I want one of them (which one?)? I have about that much to spend, a bit more if you think there's something better. Only ever 1 guitar going in, and maybe vocals at a different time - but it's gotta be able to play say a 16th note bass or synth triplet set in real time so I can hear it. I hope what I'm saying is a soundcard issue?

Yes, this is latency. In the Delta Control Panel somewhere you should be able to set the Latency buffer setting (or simila) to a low figure, say 128. Then in Sonar run the Waveprofiler (Audio -> Options -> Waveprofiler-button) and voilá, the latency is low. :)
 
That worked, does a few strange things every once in a while, but I jacked it all the way over. Thanks moskus:)

Oh, I don't have a Delta yet, have to buy one, not sure which. I'm using the Audigy 2 for a few more weeks:(
