Im still learning the ropes of my new studio and at the moment im just trying to gt the structure of guitar for my songs as i dont have the equipment to record anything else. One problem i'm having is keeping my timing perfect. I have fairly good rythm it's just that i need something else to get my rythem spot on. Should i get a midi eyboard and use that to program some basic drums (i dont know enough about time signitures and temp to write the midi in logic) or sholud i get a symple drum machine?

Oh yeah and i hate the click track in logic plus i can only get it through my computer speakers no through my omni studio. And amybe i should have posed this in the Keyboard and sound modules forum but i only just noticed that there was one :)

Anyone got any idea, opinion, experience they can help me with? Maybe i sholud get a digital metranome, would this be better than the one i get with logic and my soundblaster card?

Get a simple drum machine. Don't record it, just use it to monitor your tempo (instead of the click track).

Maybe this will work

I'm not sure what kind of computer your using, but this may work for you. I'm running a mac dual 500 and a Digi001, I was having the same problem with the click coming through the tower of my mac. I just changed the sound output of my computer to go through the Digi. I don't know if it will work with your application, but might be worth a shot. If it comes down to a Keyboard or a drum machine, I would go with a keyboard. I think this gives you more options for your music. More sound ya know what I mean.
Good Luck brutha

I think i might try again to get my click track through logic to work first and see if i can live with that. Can anyone recomment a good metranome if i decide to get one?

Yo Ashes of Liquid Nitrogen:

Personally, man, I'd do the drum machine. Why? Well, what does a "click" do for your creative inspiration? NADA. Click, click,click....

However, when you hear a groove of "good" drums, [and a good bass line if possible] you can really let it all come out. No booze necessary but one small drink afterwards is rewarding.

I always set my meter with a drum box while doing the chords. Once you have a basic rhythm pattern down, you can have some great fun with your Ax, guitar, or whatever.

I guess you can do click, click, click....however, I prefer, boom, crash, bang, zing, voom.....

Id go for a drum machine, or if software is an option, Fruity Loops.......

I'd use a "drum machine" or like prossess if your music has any "pushes" or up beat accents ect...clicks are harder to feel , even good drummers play around the clicks to a degree..So if you have to have others play to your tracks ,a "drum" program is much better to work with later..Try to program your drum mach. with the kick drum in the pattern that the drums will acually be playin'..Same with snare to a degree,Crash/ride cymbs and with your hat try 8th or 16th beats..this is so you can feel the beats between{ups accents etc.}..This works pretty well for layin' drums after th other inst. have been tracked..Good luck

How software generates a click is to simply send out a midi signal, the reason that it comes out of your ordinary soundcard is that it has built in sounds whereas the Delta card doesn't.
To get the click to come through the main monitors you may have to physically connect the Soundblaster's (or whatever it is) line outs to a spare input on the Omni.

If you don't like the sound of the click you can change it to any sound you want in Logic by going to the:

Options Menu/ Settings / Metronome Settings/

Then highlight the "Midi Click" metronome Icon and change the 'note #' in the menu on the left side of the screen.

To program Drum tracks in Logic exactly like you would with a drum machine go to Logic's 'Windows' menu and select 'Open Hyper Edit', it should ask if you want to create a new sequence, choose 'Create'.
A new window should pop up with some ruler type grids next to labels marked 'Volume', 'pan' etc.
On the top left side of the page should be a box that says 'Midi Controls', just click and hold the left mouse button in that box and select "GM Drumkit" when it pops up.
The page should change and the 'rulers' should now be next to labels named after different percussion instruments.
Just click anywhere to place a note there exactly as you would with a grid based drum machine.
