I've been fumbling around at the sonic spot looking for a nice virtual sampler and a virtual analogue-ish keyboard sounding software program. Cool no problem there.

This is my problem.

I want to play these virtual keyboards with my computer keyboard as opposed to a traditional master keyboard through a midi port. To clarify, I want to use a computer keyboard (like the one you type on) as opposed to a KEYboard (like the kind that looks like it belongs on a piano. Sorry, can't think of how else to describe it.

I know this can be done, don't know how. I want to play it though, like each key representing a note. I want to be able to do this in a live performance. Maybe connect a guitar strap to the keyboard.

Any ideas?

Cakewalk felt the same way right from the start and every version I've seen has this little application to map your QWERTY keyboard to some MIDI pitches.

Sorry to say- you're both way too high. The idea sucks.

It was marginal way back when my Commodore 64 used this sort of input and hasn't gotten any better since.

Get a real keyboard. Even one of those one or two octave jobbies.

At harmony central you can find links to software that will allow you to use your typing keyboard as a MIDI "keyboard". Also, some software like Fruity Loops will also let you use your typing keyboard.

The problem is that a) it's really uncomfortable and a royal pain in the ass b) timing becomes an issue c) hitting multiple keys does not always produce the desired result.

I gave up on it after a couple tries :( Now I'm looking into the 200 dollar range MIDI controllers by Fatar/Studiologic.

Well duh!!!

Yeah I didn't really think of that. Like how would the software know how long you are holding the key down for? Yeah and the chord situation may pose a problem too. But then again I'm not really looking to play those type of sounds I don't think. More along the lines of samples or sound effects and trippy moogy sounds and stuff. Single note stuff. I'm going to check it out anyway, fuck it.

People will mistake you for Harold, the geeky sidekick of Red Green.

Actually check this out!

That's totally whack docky! Looks like something Data from Start Blech TNG would play if he were in a band. Or Jordy even. Computer keyboards are old school. Retro. They got soul.:D

After referring to all the posts, now I want to say that keyboard of education is a different thing to learn. It is nice way to get earn & make name & fame from it but to reach at that level one must have to learn it properly then only he/she can achieve all this.I also play keyboard everyday,it lessens my stress & I like it to play.

randy, do realize you've been bumping age old threads for your last few comments????
