Keyboard - Midi Controller

Hi...

I'm currently using Cakewalk SHS4... and have been recording at home the better part of a year...

so far I have been doing nearly all audio work... with some midi programming and limited groove clip work...

I'm looking to start using a midi controller to make it easier to program.. but I don't own many plugins yet so I wanted to get a keyboard that had some onboard sounds to get me started... I went to the local shop and they recommended either

Pro Keys 88
-or-
Novation A station 8
RKMT SYNTH Module
with M-Audio Radium 49

so far I'm not having too much luck finding a lot of info on them... any advice or other products to research... I'm trying to stay under $350 total...

Thanks in advance
Greg

Evolution mk 361c model comes with free software package with all sorts of sounds on it. Exellent midi controller,,, got mine on ebay, mint, still boxed £80.
I havent usd the software that came with it as i have some decent korg and yamaha synths , so its not required.
So my opinion is " this is a cracking midi controller ", with sounds if you need them.

I found Triangle II and crystal... they sound good and I think they are all I might need to get started...

Is anyone familiar with this MicroKORG ?? it seems like it has a lot of editable synths on board but it can also be used to control soft synths...

In the meantime... can anyone point me to a free/cheap soft synth for strings? violin cello?

Thanks!

Stringer is a cool synth for strings. It's kind of a weird sound, but it's free. I love it. For cello, I use samples. Got them from some dude named Fitch. Try a search.
As for the MicroKorg, it depends on what type of music you're trying to make. It has really small keys. It seems like it would be OK for electronic music (dance, etc.).

I just went through this to a certain degree. I tried two controller boards (e-mu and Oxygen) and had trouble with both, fundamentally I have trouble with recording at the PC altogether - a personal thing.

I ended up with a MicroKorg, I love the vintage sounds, there's definitely more than dance music sounds, but there is no piano. I thought the small keys would be an issue but they have not been so far. It can be a controller but I have not tried that yet.

It's very small, light and portable which will be useful for me also.
