I plugged in my Alese qs6 keyboard directly to my delta 1010 and the signal I get is kinda weak on the recording software. It sounds ok to me but should I try to make it hotter ? The signal is barely showing up on the software meter.

how do I make it hotter?

A direct box is a unit that converts an unbalanced signal to a balanced one for transmission over distance. Ideally your keyboard should put out a line level signal --- that means you wouldn't need a direct box at all.

Check your software path - soundcard, computer master input, attenuation (turning down) of tracks in software and if you don't find the problem there check the master settings on the keyboard itself. If you are using a multi patch be sure the master volume is not the culprit and the volume knob on the keyboard itself should be at least 3/4 of the way up --- the velocity settings you are using may be to blame too - check those.
