Any tips on this fairly raw recording would be greatly appreciated. I haven't had my vocalist in to do vocals yet, so its all instrumentals. Also, don't bash the amature guitar solo -- guitar isn't my forte, lol.

Thanks for taking the time to listen!

Good news - the mix is great - little heavy on the cymbals but pretty darn good. The guitar solo is blah and out of tune, which surprises me because the rhythm parts are in tune. Is the intonation okay? KInda Neil Young-ish but... I'd practice, tune and redo the solo - the rest will be good...:D:D:D:D

Guitar tone is a bit sterile and DI sounding. Got a good amp sim?

I can hear what you're going for but this recording is pretty sloppy. It's not as tight as it should be. The acoustic guitar doesn't have any low end and the distorted electric sounds really thin. The bass is there but buries both other guitars. The kick drum need to come up and the overheads should be turned down a bit. Most of these thing can be fixed with some EQ and mixing magic. But your timing issues aren't going to go away unless you plan on doing a lot of stretching and shrinking but a lot of that will kill your song.

Thanks for all of the excellent feedback!

@Stat -- Yeah, I am aware of the timing issues in some spots. I'm probably going to dink around with some flex time in Logic to see if I can tighten it up. The isolation headphones I have are getting old which is making it hard to hear the click. I'll try adjusting the EQ's on the guits.

@maestro -- I don't have an amp sim, no. Right now I have a Washburn WI-64DL (that needs replacing) and a Peavy Valveking 112 (all-tube).

@idol -- As I mentioned above, I need a new electric. The intonation is not right, and I don't know how to fix it. It's always been a problem with that guitar. Unfortunately, I spent my money on a nice acoustic, a Martin DC-1E. I'm saving up for a Les Paul Studio, though. I had planned on re-doing the solo. I just kinda threw it in there for a place holder.

Again, thanks for the feedback! I'm gonna hop back in to Logic, and hopefully re-upload sometime today!

Here is an updated version with most of the changes made. The guit solo is still the same, I will be re-doing it later, though.

Is it better or worse? I've got my vocalist coming today, so hopefully I'll have a completed version for you to critique tomorrow!

Thanks!

Listened to the second mix - still sounds pretty good despite the solo. Up the drums a bit more especially at the very beginning. Hope you score that LP they are sweet. Just write your own lyrics/melody. I don't think you can copywrite chords so it's safe ;-).
