Gidge-

I have a JV1010 also. I was never able to get the Soundiver software to work on my computers. It's been a while since I tried so I don't really remember what the difficulty was. I think I couldn't even get it to install properly. Or, if it did, I wasn't able to get it communicating with the JV1010.

Unfortunately, the JV1010 has one of the most confusing manuals ever written (and that's saying something because Roland has written some doozies over the years). I essentially gave up on my JV1010 because it was so difficult to program or get to operate multi-timbrally. I'll use it to fill out a sound here and there, but that's about it.

BTW, it's things like the JV1010 that have lead me to boycott Roland gear.

I don't understand what the problem is in number 3. Don't you want things to communicate?

Number 4? Sugar free J and no bread!

SoundDiver doesn't seem to work in Windows XP for me. I don't think it will and they stopped supporting it. But it worked good in ME (and should work fine in 98 also). But there is still an OEM patch on Emagic's website that you should look at getting. But, like I said, if you got XP, I think you're out of luck. If you are really interested in using the JV-1010 and want to program your own sounds, I suggest taking a look at Midi Quest (or just Uniquest if you only want to mess with the JV-1010). Have a look here:

There is also another one here that a guy made just for the JV-1010:

I used this one until the demo ran out, I really liked it. I liked the interface better than MidiQuest, but it has less features.

Anyway, you can try the demos for both of them.

If you do get software that will talk to your JV-1010, all you need it the MIDI Out of the M-audio to the Midi-In of the JV-1010 and the Midi-Out of the JV-1010 to the Midi-In of the M-Audio. Then you might have to go to a preferences section and select your Midi ports, but I seem to remember SoundDiver scanned for them and found the JV-1010 by itself (running on Windows ME).
