Just wondering...

Last night I mic'd one of my guitarists amp with a SM57 and my other guitarist with a PG56. But after mixing we found the PG56 gave it a better sound. Is there any reasoning behind this? I used just a on-axis mic placment about a couple of inchs or so from the grill.

Where is it written that a 57 will sound better than anything else for a given situation?

Obviously,..in that situation the PG was the mic to use. There are too many factors to pin down and figure out why that particular mic sounded better. At least for my limited expierience.

Take 'er easy,..
