Just tried out Demo of Tracktion 2...I'm pretty impressed.

First off, the audio engine is phenomenal. The whole program is extremely user friendly and I was able to use VSTi's easier and much faster than in Pro Tools. Seemed like it is capable of some great automation curves and the visual output (shows every step) on each track is amazing. The compressor is a bit too simple but there are a bunch of solid included plug ins (and it read all of my VSTs I already have).

Full ASIO support for my soundcard and the visual rack filter (can be used as a bus) or a common group of effects (lets say you like a certain reverb EQ and Comp on vocal tracks on the whole CD) and then saved.

Only gripe I had was that I could not find a mixing console. You would think Mackie would just throw a visual representation of their mixers on there. They did have some metering but it didnt work well and was hard to find without the keyboard shortcut CNTL ALT M

Anyone else try it out?

Overall, amazingly user friendly and powerful. But simple.

i tried tracktion 1 and hated it :/

cool edit seemed a high end software next to it.

plus all the reverbs sounded like tin cans.

Couldn't figure it out huh? I've tried both versions of tracktion and thought they were pretty awesome. Very inuitive. Once you complete the setup process you never have to worry about it. The fact that there's no mixer is a bit of a nuissance but hardly worth griping over. I think the best thing about it is that it's all on one screen. No windows to worry about. Nice bit of software.

i figured it out, i used it for a while, but just didnt cut it for me...sounded and looked a lot more like an electronic music application :/
 
i have it coming in soon (the new one) i fooled around with a demo a while back but i never was able to get away from cool edit and i used to use Audacity a lot more.. now its time to get a little better stuff i think 2 is going to kick butt :D of course Sam Ash said i should of had it last week but.... i hope it gets here soon...
 
i tried t1 and liked it. it was pretty user friendly. i just have no otivation to switch from cakewalk at the moment. thanks for the review.
 
I'm a big fan of T1. I haven't made the crossover yet, but considering it's only a $20 upgrade, I'm sure I will.

It's actually way more geared to audio. I found the midi interface in T1 cumbersome but the audio is so simple even a complete newbie could use it. Drag a connection over and press record. Simple and works. Will wonders never cease?
