The performance of Raid 0 is tempting, but it's just too risky to stripe without mirroring, so yeah it's seperate app and data drives. I'm gonna partition them and use Ghost to image each to the other for total redundancy

It was $2600 here in New Zealand, which is around $1800 USD. That price also included the case, floppy drive & DVD burner.

I could have shaved around $300 off by going for 512MB ram, smaller drives and a lower spec graphics card, but WTH

Where did you order the components from? All the same place or did you search and destroy your brain comparing prices from different places?

PS: Looks great!

Haha yeh that search and destroy thing.

Actually it wasn't that hard. Once I'd decided on the type of mobo and ram, I used Pricespy to locate the cheapest bits and just knocked up a quick spreadsheet using the 4 or 5 cheapest suppliers for each part. I wanted to get the mobo, chip & ram from the same supplier in case there were any issues.

I could have save a few more $s but I ended up getting everything, except for the monitor, from the same supplier who will do the assembly as well. Which reminds me I gotta go check the status of that order
