just not right...

It's a pretty nice song. A nice change there at around 1:30. The guitar was strong but it sounded like you were really holding back on the vocals.

The recording is pretty weak, but at least the song is audible. What are you recording with?

Slackmaster 2000

I liked how the guitars went from mono to stereo.

The problem I have with the track is the hiss. THe guitar tone was a bit hard.

THe song itself is nice and you have a nice voice. I like your use of the panning. I would like to hear some more ambience.

the hiss

yeah, im using a laptop soundcard... it's really poor quality, i've determined it is the cause of my high noise floor and constant hiss. very annoying, but i deal with it.

I like the melody. I kept waiting for the band to kick in......1 2 3 4....de ne ne de ne ne ne.... How sharp are your horns. Cool lyrics -- invest in a wind screen. It will help with the sssssss's and plosives. I dig your melodies. Just not right is a good song. With pro production you may be on to something. Work together with the othervocaluist to tighten up a bit. It will hook the song up!

that song inspirations sounds very similar to Canon in D minor(I think its D minor...)

D, A, B, etc.... :)

sound card fix

Hey. A quick run through a cheap program (Cool Edit Pro) will definitely HELP with your noise issues due to cheezy card. Give it a try. It's simple to use and will clean you up quite nicely.

what do you mean a run? i used cool edit to mix the tracks, should i use one of the special filters? that tends to change the sound...

about the canon... haha. it could be, do you mean the song by pachelbel??

YES!

Yes. USE THE FILTERS!!! I know it changes the sound, but you can combat that!!! Record whatever tracks you KNOW are gonna need to be cleaned HIGH!!! Then when you use the 'hum removal' filter etc...it doesn't seem to affect it much in the end. It's not perfect but it really helped me out. I record with a REALLY CRAPPY $30 mic. My vocals are ROUGH!!! Plus with a Large DOG padding around, background noise, etc. they're just a MESS, but I use Cool Edit Pro to 'clean that stuff out', then I pop the track back into cakewalk and life IS GOOD! It's fairly time consuming and not flawless. But it works. I swear.

I'm not a recording guru, but I know with my limited ability it has helped immensely.

Just took a listen...

I picked up on some clipping/distortion in the guitar and vocals starting at about :40. It dissapates and comes back periodocally. You may want to check your levels or maybe a compressor plug-in.

If you are setting your levels based on a certain distance from the mic (who doesn't :) ), be careful to stay within that distance or vary your vocal volume based on your variation from that first reference point you used to set levels with.

For example: If, while you are recording, you pull away from the mic you can then sing a little bit louder.

Maybe that's a bad example. Sometimes pulling away from the mic while not adjusting your singing volume can create a slightly far away effect.

Anyway...

I also like the panning from mono to stero but feel it's a bit too fast. A slower pan to make the listener feel more like they are being enveloped in guitar, I think, would rock.

This is a good song! Good lyrics and I really dig the way the song ends! Very kick@ss.

-Peace
