Hello

I have just joined up and live in Melbourne, Australia. I have played guitar for 35 years but mostly just at home.

I am looking forward to this forum.

I am just getting into recording but damn it is hard if you dont know someone else who is close at hand who has been through the hurdles.

Just setting up my little studio now with very modest budget and expectations. It will be gradual.

I have bought a Edirol interface, a Shure SM57 and I am about to decide on some monitors. The software came with the interface - Cakewalk Sonar LE.

I am using a laptop out of necessity but I hate the damn thing. It regularly forgets the Edirol driver set up when I turn it on and boot up. It seems to demand that I leave it plugged in at all times to avoid this. (Any advice here would be welcome)

I am able to do a very basic recording, but have a lot to learn. I know nothing about midi or how to establish a drum loop using the software, but I guess I will get there.

My instrument set up is more advanced. I am crazy about guitars and will never give one away. I could just keep accumulating them if I could.

My main instruments are a US Standard Strat, a Gibson ES-175, a new Epiphone Peformer ME acoustic electric, a 1978 Takamine, and a Squire Precision Bass (just a cheapy I bought recently for recording, as I am not a trained bass player, but I love playing it).

I also have a more modern Yamaha acoustic, an old basic classical and
an old Ibanez Stratocaster copy from about 1978 (I love them all).

I look forward to interacting with you guys.

Welcome, Mr Robert!!:)
I just joined here myself not too long ago.
Nice crowd here.;)

Greetings fellow guit-fiddle plunker! :)

Pull up a seat, post away and...........

oh yeah...

new guy buys beer. :D

Hey, welcome. There's quite a few Aussies on this site, so you're in good company. Be sure to check out the MP3 clinic, lot of great stuff posted there. And when you're ready, be sure to post up your stuff as well. You'll get great feedback and suggestions.

Ahh, that ES-175 must be nice. I just got rid of an ES-120T.

Don't know anything about the Edirol, sorry.

And I'll take that beer whenever you're ready.

Cheers,

Welcome Mr.Robot (and johnb!). Glad to have both of you. There's tons to learn here, so soak up all you want--but don't be afraid to jump in & teach too!

New guy buys Slim Jims, too.

(Last time I tried that on an Aussie, he didn't know what a Slim Jim was. Forgive me if I've stepped in it again... :D)

It's always nice to meet someone else (who like me, knows more about making music than recording it) wanting to expand their understanding of recording. Welcome to the forum, there is lots of good info to be had around here from some very helpfull people. OK I'll take a beer now (thanks) but I'll pass on the Slim Jim, those things give me heartburn.
