Once more, until the 25th the drummer is on holiday so ignore the horribly sampled drums (unless they;'re too high/low in the mix etc)

Just looking for some feedback.

Cheers,
Rich

EDIT:

Here's a version with sampled drums rather than electronic

few points. i do like this kind of rush-rock tho, before i say anything
by the way, im not an expert on mixing at all, so everything ill explain in my own mix of laymans terms and garbage

- im not gonna say anything about the drums, cos you said it already. and also, im not gonna say anything about anyones drums, cos mine are bad :D but with the snare drum roll, try and alter the power of the hits so they sound less consistent and more real (here i am, mr hypocrite!)

- the vocal melody is cool. sounds very 'weezer' ish but on fire.

- the electric rhythm guitar sounds 'too far away' or just suffers from a little lack of quality (or too brittle) due to the distortion. perhaps just bringing it closer and thickening it up a bit would work?

- you have a nice quality in your voice. if it was less 'boomy', that would really sound good bringing it to the front of the mix a bit. have you thought also about seriously belting out some of the higher bits? really give them some welly and some anger. that'd be kewl. experts help me here, would this vocal benefit from compression to bring it more consistent????

- the lead guitar player is good!

Hey I like you (Particularly cause I'm the vocalist AND lead guitarist :) I'll change the velocity of the drum roll, but Im thinking of adding more treble to the rhythm guitar to bring it forward) The boomy-ness on the vocals is from the sm57 in a big room with no padding. (IE my lounge), I'll think of how to get a sound booth type thing going...

Anymore Ideas?

Have taken account of what you said:

I reckon the vocals need more..umphhh. Any idea on how to achieve this?

Come on people! I want to be able to send this to my peoples by friday, is it ready?

:P

try this...get a similar distortion effect (one with more treble already?) and double track your rhythm. pan them a bit each side of the spread. turn the gain down a bit to give more quality and less of a brittle sound. the other guitar and the bass will heavy it up to compensate anyhow.

slightly turn up your vocals to bring them out a bit more. they're good as i said before, but occasionally just sit quiet and get drown by the guitar.

chuck in some pick scrapes for good measure :D i love em i do, especially with these types of guitar tracks !!!! haha well, depends on your personal taste really but i love em especially goin into the chorus.

youre on to a winner. as a demo, or a 'live' track, its fine (once you got your drummer back). as a song, just work on the sound of the guitar, and the vocal levels/clarity etc.

i like it. im not gonna say my chunes are any good, cos i wouldnt have posted them on here for criticism, but if you listen to either or both that i posted recently, you'll hear the doubled up and panned guitars (tho i need to work on these as ive been advised so they dont swamp the mix, but i like the sound i got, and actually turned down the gain for the first time EVER!! and strangely enough sounds heavier...hmm. i lifted my vocals out the mixed and slapped on a bit of compression and slight reverb.
and some pick scrapes!!!! wahey!!!

cheers

Listening to it through headphones right now, and the kick seems like extremely loud or something..... Maybe some sorta wierd stereo spreading on it? Or are my phones just freaking out? The guitar definitely sounds sorta far away and hollow/scooped, I say the answer is different mic placement for more upfrontness. Did you compress the vocals at all already? I think they could use a little bit, and then the guitar levels can come up and fill out the mix a bit more without competing with things.

Yeah I was having troubles with the kick blending with the bass guitar, so I gave it quite a rise, but it plays nicely here, you can hear it over everything without it overpowering....I'll knock it down 1db or 2.
Doing a second guitar track seems inevitable now, so I'll start on that soon.
Vocals aren't compressed, not sure how to do that with CEP2 (well Adobe Audition)

Cheers for that,
Rich
