I already have an ART Studio V3 Tube Mic Pre amp. The b1 is on its way with a pop filter and stand. Is this mic gona be as good as im hoping for making my hip hop debut album?

C'mon guys. The B1 is a fine starter condenser mic for $80. Alot better than some of the comparably-priced stuff out there.

Prospect, if you stick with it you'll probably acquire better mics but there will be occasions where you'll want to pull the B1 out. Good luck with your project!

To think some amazing hiphop debut album is going to shoot out of nowhere is almost foolish. To think that an ART Pre matched with a B1 will help that chatter is pure lunacy. I think the B1 will serve you well - but eventually you need more than you got. Also - the most expensive mic/preamp package will be worthless if paired with subpar talent/knowledge.
Do you have good enough equipment for basement tapes - yeah. But to make some hot album right off the bat - not so sure about that...

The answer to his question is...... NO.

The B1 might be a nice mic and the ART thing is probably better than a stick in the eye.... but they are not going to produce a wonderful debut album. Might as well be realistic.

I doubt it.

The real answer is (drum roll please)...

It depends.

It depends on the material, the talent of the artist, the recording environment, the engineer, the producer, the other equipment involved, and on and on.

There have been many hits made with a mic and preamp of much poorer quality than your new gear, so ther IS a chance. Just remember that you'll be competing with artists and labels with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of resources behind their music. As Tom Petty said, "don't back down". ;)

You need to work on your beats...need to be filled out a bit more (vs. sounding like 3 tracks of a casio synth)..additionally - your production needs help.
That said - what was the point of posting this thread if you already purchased the mic? Wont you, in days, be able to figure out if its "hot" enough for your debut?
Keep on working at your trade...not that its a huge compliment - but it sounds better than PDiddy and Nelly crap.

ive got talent I think. check out my page www.soundclick.com/bands/9/prospectvamusic.htm and peep track
Its one of my newest... recorded it half assed just for fun till I get my b1. But I think it showcases the talent I believe I have

I enjoyed the first track. Just keep at it. If it gets to the point where you think you need a different mic, then you'll just go and get one. What did you use on the first track?

Go out and use your talent to make the best recording you can and don't forget it's about the music and not the gear.

Keep us posted with what you end up recording. I'd like to know. I think you've got some decent talent.

I rekon used with imagination this mic will do fine. The thing with all this pro audio crap and alot of the members on this board is there's too much emphasis on perfection. Nowadys you can be successfull from a laptop in your bedroom. I wonder how many of these "pro audio, hey man that's a great begginers mic but you should buy a blah blah blah for $2000 and you'll use your B1 as bookend" guys can actually write a decent song. This board is great for technical specs and tips to fix stuff but Just remember your dealing with gear freaks.

To quote one of your lyrics: "I'm like Christ on the mic, but in the physical form."

Now first off, I can respect someone who has a lot of confidence in their abilities . . . because in the industry you're trying to break in to, you're going to need it. Obviously, there's lots of competition, and things will get brutal.

But I have to wonder just why it is that so many of the folks doing this particular genre of musical expression feel the need to flaunt what appears to be such explosive arrogance and pretentiousness (?) Is that what it takes to get discovered? I mean, do you really think record execs are sifting through mounds and mounds of demo tapes looking for the act that is the most full of him/herself?

I hope you don't take this as a personal knock. I think your stuff sounds good, and it sounds like you're working really hard at it . . . and you seem like a nice person and all with intelligent lyrics to boot. But this is a trend I've been seeing a lot in R&B / hip-hop / rap genre, and it just seems logical to me that the whole cockiness thing has been fully explored to it's depths, and it's only a matter of time before the public is going to look for something else . . .

. . . and subsequently, the A&R guys might be thinking the same thing. So if you want to stand out from the pack, maybe you could try to distinguish yourself a little more. There's some intelligence in your lyrics . . . don't spoil it by reducing yourself to the level of the pimps and the ghetto queens that are already littering our airwaves on the radio and MTV.

"Christ on a mic." Well, you're certainly starting out foolishly enough. You'll probably make it big, though, if you live long enough. The world seems to love fools nowadays. But I wouldn't count on it if I were you.

How about feedback from someone who actually DEALS with hip hop like myself?
These guys don't focus on hip hop, and are gear freaks, so anything we have, that's less than what they have, is never good enough to them.

Anyways, the mic is nice, it's a good all around mic, but that pre needs to go.

Try the pre by studio projects, RNP, or such.
Your setup will be a chain, therefore, you need to make each link as strong as another, that pre is your "weakest link"

Dont let these people tell you that you cant get good sounding material with cheap equipment, I recorded a song, with an $8.00 karaoke mic, and a soundblaster live card, and it sounded better than most songs these people on here that have been here for a little while have put out.

It all has to do with your production skills, spend time learnin what sounds best not only to you, but everyone else, everything is played by ear.

Fagboy steven is an official hater. Ill take you serious when I hear some ur shit that isnt so "foolish". And that line shouldnt be taken to heart. Its like rappers talking bout murdering now a days, how many actually do? Well I dont think im the best emcee to ever hold a mic. And im very religous, in no way shape or form, was I comparing myslef to christ. I was simply saying Jesus Christ was the most perfect being to ever walk this earth. " Im like christ on the mic, but in the physical form". Simply saying im as great as jesus was if you compare me with a mic in my hand.

Yep. I'm a hater of arrogance, filth and anything that belittles the Name of Christ. You can call it what you like....I don't care. And you're about to hit a brick Wall. I feel sorry for you. One day you'll understand, hopefully before it's too late.

I will exit the thread now. Sorry everyone else.
