Maybe I'm just totally confused...because my experience in this area is zilch...but I have a digital recorder (Roland VS-1680) and I'm hooking a RCA cables from the out to the S/PDIF in on my new Echo Mia card. Shouldn't I be getting a signal now? I know the card works...because I ran my guitar through the 1680 and used analog out to the analog in on the card...and the meters fired right up. My digital signal for the Mia doesn't do anything...acts like it's not getting a signal. Any ideas?
Thanks,

Make sure you have something assigned to the digital outs on the Roland.

If that card can use optical cable, get one. If not, make sure the sampling rate settings match from unit to unit. Make sure the spdif part of your card is set active in whatever recording program you’re using. Also, you have to adjust the output levels in your Roland. That part is confusing, because it’s a digital copy as opposed to a digital transfer. If you’re copying multiple (more than 2) tracks, hook up your midi cables and make sure all those settings are correct. You can copy 2 tracks at a time through one spdif cable, so make sure the Roland tracks are set all the way left and all the way right. Since you haven’t done this before, I suggest checking any of your manuals for settings, etc. There’s a learning curve, but it can be done. I’m living proof. I still have to refer to my notes when I set up the settings. The Roland manual should have a list of settings. I don’t know which computer program you’re using, but I use Cakewalk, and it covers the settings also. Boy are you going to have fun. If you still can’t get it going, check back and I’ll post the settings I use. If I forget to look in this forum, call it to my attention in the Dragon Cave forum.
