I've been over on the Cakewalk Forum for a while, but I just got me this bad boy, so I'll be bugging the hell out of you guys over here from now on...

Dave.

Finally got it...

Thanks to UPS really dropping the ball, I finally got my studio yesterday, and had a play last night. It seems to be suprisingly easy to use. I just played around with a few tracks, adding effects, panning etc...

There's only one draw back I can see so far (althought there's probably a way round it - or I'm not doing it right). You can only apply two separate effects, then set the level of these effects on each track, rather than a different one to each track. So I can't have Track1-Chorus, Track2-Flange, Track3-Delay etc...etc...

Probably a way round this - oh well, back to the 150 page manual... I wonder how I can bounce tracks down....

Dave.

You're right about the effects.Think of it in the same way you would having 2 outboard effects units. You can only apply one effect from each unit. The VF-16 has 2 "Onboard" effects" units, not 16 individual ones.

So your conclusion is correct.Only 2 effects for all 16 channels at mixdown.

If you have empty tracks open, you can record the track with the effects to another track and then add additional effects to the new track via internal mixdown mode.

Thanks for the replies...

Yeah, cheers for the input guys, yeah just two effects, but the whole bouncing down to another track with the effect on is definately worth looking into.

Hopefully I'll have some time to start work on a song for real this weekend, I'll let you all know how things work out...

Dave.

Read up on the "Scene memory" and "Scene Event Map" in the manual. That will help you be more creative with your effects. The manual is a bit difficult to understand in this area, but playing around with it help you understand the vast possibilities of VF-160

I forgot to tell you earlier ,but there is a forum totally dedicated to the Vf-16(vf-160 too since it's the same recorder only difference is the 160 has a burner)over at http://pub15.ezboard.com/bvf16

There are a lot of users over there who enjoy answering questions. You'll find a lot of info in the archive section.

Thanks again...

Ok thanks, keep the advice coming...

I was playing around with Punch In / Out last night, I have a Footswich and it works a treat, but you have to set automatic ones up in order to delete sections of tracks, and the whole process seems a little random. I managed it once, but I'm not sure how I did it.

I think I need to take a week off work and throw myself into it really...

Dave (will take a looksee at the VF16 Forum).
