Well Ghost, normally I agree with you, but there's nothing racist about prostitution.

Here's what I find racist about what's been said here in this thread;

When someone sees a black woman and automatically calls her a prostitute, that's a racist slur.

There are thousands of ads in the world of white women holding, caressing and draping themselves over all manner of products and I don't see them being automatically pigeonholed as a prostitute.

There was a recent story in the news about someone in the radio industry, I think it was Don Imus(sp), who also refereed to a group of black women as "crack hos", and ended up losing his long standing job for it. The complaint in that incident was the same as what's going on in this thread; namely that "there seems to be this impression out there that a black woman, in order to make a living, can only be a prostitute because they are too ignorant to do anything else".

If you guys don't see what I'm talking about here, it's only because you don't want to admit it.

To give a bit of balance here and be as objective as I can, at the risk of making enemies perhaps, I think the term "prostitute", I'd bet, was used to describe the rather gross, unflattering and suggestive pose of that female, on a console, in an eBay ad of all places, never mind the color of her skin but I do, however, see how some would view the content above as having racial overtones, ie: "Black Market", "Blingin' pimp-mack-daddy", "bent over" and then "prostitute" to top it all off ..... That is NOT to say, however, that the people who made the comments are racists or bigots, just that some off-hand words were unfortunately peppered throughout. Sometimes we shoot off the hip with little to no preparation or forethought of the consequences but we mean no harm. While it's no excuse for what was said and in what context, this was, plain and simple, an ad-lib, some off the cuff remarks, IMHO. Lets leave it at that.

Beck has stated why this auction is of a suspicious nature and did so without any racial overtones. I'm sure he's right in his assumptions about the seller's intent to try and sell the units off ebay to avoid their charges.

But for others here to use this as a platform to throw out the racial slurs that I've witnessed here is inexcusable.

Beck's reasons for reporting the thread were the same reason that I called it, jokingly, a "black market" . And which ultimately got it banned from ebay. It was cheezy and cheap auction. Thanks Daniel, yeah, that was exactly the joke behind it. I was going to say slut or whore but I don't normally talk like that, and they sound more derogative to me so I said prostitute . The comment of Black Market has nothing whatsoever to do with someones skin color. It has to do with auctions in the past which have sold drugs or other things under the guise of something else. Things which the buyers are already looking for.
