IMO, yes. The AT line is a fair representation of "you get what you pay for".
I agree that yu can get some nice stuff out of all of them, I prefer the 4040 and the 4033. Never heard the 3060 or 4060 but the 4047 is very nice too.

I use the mic as a single overhead of the kit. Just for demo's. It works very well for rock. I've been wanting to get another for a pair. Though if your looking for stellar vocal results I would search elsewhere. It definately is a useful mic for me utility wise. I have use it in front of the kick along with a d112 inside. That worked very well.

I read that the 4040 replaced the 4033 but has a different character in small ways ...How so ???

The 3035 isn't a perfect mic, but I like it (I have a pair). I think that $199 is a little steep, but I got one for $150 new and the other for $134 new, which is resonable for what they are. They're not bad mics to start out with; they can produce a useable sound on a lot of sources. I even tried one on snare the other day, which had a decent result. I had been using an SM57 and wanted to try something different. Anyway, if you're getting some kind of echo or noise, I would guess that your problem is something other than the mic.

I keep hearing about the AT4040, it sounds like a versatile mic. Are the 40 series a fair bit better than the 30 ???

When i was starting out my only LDC was a SP B1. I bought a 3035, but it was only a marginal upgrade. I took it back and got the 4040. I've never looked back..

two very different voicings, hard to describe.... The 4040 is very "get back what you put in" with a kinda mellowness. The 4033 has a little edge to it, better for vox, IMHO
