All i'm really looking for in this thread is comments/suggestions/criticism.
I spent two years after high school working for a company that installed live audio set-ups and also did recording/mixing/mastering , our main clientele was churches. I came into the job with the studio already set-up. I know how to use majority of equipment.

I've been a musician for about 10 years now, and I mainly specialize in bass guitar and synth (Another Geddy Lee, one day >.> =] )

I own several synths (SH-201, Radias) and two usb midi controllers (Edirol PC-50 and an Axiom 61)

My quarrel right now is i'd like to set up my own home studio/portable recording get up. I'd like to start off recording bands in my area, free of charge, for practice (including my own music) and to get a name out to hopefully pull in a little side cash alongside of my current career, because I just like doing what I enjoy.

I basically have a budget of 3k, and so far ( minus cables etc) i've selected this for equipment:

Line 6 POD X3 Pro (Guitar, Bass, and Vocal effects, also allows for two seperate inputs [Guitar, Bass, or Vocals] and to isolate the effects per channel for studio or live set-up)

Line 6 Toneport UX8
Nady GEQ Single 31-band EQ
Presonus Digimax D8 pre-amp (Drums)
dbx266xl Compressor/Gate
Monster Power Pro Power conditioner

And a 12U gator case.

I also have a Mackie 1202 VLZ Pro Mixer (12 Channel) that I would like to make use of. I also have a 7 drum mic set, and a couple of condenser mics.
The only thing i'd like to keep is the POD X3 Pro on this list.

The computer will be using Sonar 8.5 (64-bit), OS running is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Intel i7 @ 4 ghz, and 12 GB of ram.

Im also willing to push the budget as well, but I want to get some good quality at the affordable amounts.

Im trying to figure out a solution to:
-Getting the midi in/out from my synths to the computer without using the usb for the midi controllers.
-Wondering how i'm going to record the drums. Should the presonus outputs go straight into the mixer, and the mixer right into the toneport, or just right into the computer? The guitar, bass, and vocals will be a cinch, but i'm not sure how to set up 7 inputs to get recorded as one. Like I said, the wiring and work was already done when I entered the studio ;)
-was also looking for a different audio interface than the toneport that is very compatible with 64-bit Windows 7 and Sonar 64-bit, even if it is a cakewalk interface. (I have firewire on my desktop, but on the laptop that im going to use, I dont. Its no biggie though) I'm looking for maybe an 8/xlr 8/ 1/4" one, but I need someway to get my midi to the computer.

If you'd like to change the set-up entirely, or suggest anything, please, im all ears.

I thank you for reading this, at least =]
