For the sake of learning, as far as mixing/mastering goes.......could we maybe start picking an album release (new/old) and start pulling apart the production on it?
Just as an example, right now I'm learning about compression and being a bit of a Beatle nut I know that Revolver happens to be compressed to hell when being compared to Rubber Soul (the album before it). I can hear the difference but I dont know what I'm listening to - does that make sense?
Could it be the upgrade in amps? The use of headphones for the first time, which allowed for a better tracking environment? I dunno I'm trying to figure it out.
We dont have to look at just Beatles or just 60s stuff, in fact the more diverse this gets as far as album choices go the better for all - we could all learn something by listening to music we may not usually pick up.
Thoughts......
