Juno D as MIDI controller

Hi, I've got a Roland Juno D synthesiser that I use to add a bit of atmosphere to songs now and again... I don't use it as a main instrument, and the factory standard patches have always been fine for me. However, I've recently got a MIDI software sequencer and was wondering if I might be able to make some use of the Juno D as a controller. Question: is there a way for me to use the Juno D's default patches as a soft-synth that I can control using the Juno D, but via MIDI? Or if I want to use the default patches, can I ONLY do it by recording the analogue outputs?
 
You can only use the onboard sounds by recording the output. Midi only transmits note and controller data, it does not send audio in any form.
 
Thanks for your reply. I understand that MIDI data has no actual musical content, so I suppose a better way to phrase my question would be to ask if Roland make a software synth version of the Juno D patches?
 
No that I know of. At the end of the day, it really is no big deal recording the audio. While composing, you dont even need to make an audio track for it in your software, just run it into your mixer and monitor there. Control it with a midi track and recorded later..
