I got the new Guitar Player today, and learned that the video of Joni Mitchell's 1980 concert, released back then on VHS and LP, has been remastered and released on DVD. I just ordered a copy from Amazon for $14.99. The show featured an amazing band -- Don Alias, Michael Brecker, Lyle Mays, Pat Metheney, and Jaco Pastorius. I remember when I first heard it -- the first number after the intro with Joni singing with the Persuasions a capella, "In France They Kiss On Main Street," has some of the most fantastic bass playing I've ever heard -- the way he just struts and swaggers and drives the whole thing just has to be heard to be believed -- Jaco near the height of his powers, before the steep decline he went into in the following years.
