Anybody know how to get a good metal tone from the J-Station? I've had it for a couple of months and can't seem to get a decent sound. Any suggestions?
i get a pretty good heavy sound out of my j-station.... you have to experiment some to find what your looking for and it helps to use the computer editing software so you can switch cabinets quicker. try using the Mesa Boogie setting through either the Brit 4x12 (Marshall) or the Blonde 2x12 (Bassman). turn the gain up all the way, the treble way up, the bass down,(especially w/ the marshall cab setting) and the mid somewhere around 4 or 5. using different cabinets greatly alters the sound. if you don't run it to your PC, putting it to mesa boogie setting will automatically assign it to go through the Johnson 412 cabinet setting which, in my humble opinion does not sound near as good then the 2 cabinet settings i mentioned above.
also, try different guitars and change the EQ settings accordingly. these settings sound pretty good to me w/ my Jackson and Schecter, but not near as good when using a guitar w/ single coils.... regardless, i have to change the EQ from guitar to guitar (naturally!). anyway, i hope this helps some!
just to clear up any confusion from that last post, by mesa boogie setting, i meant the rectified setting. (since there are 2 different mesa boogie amp setting, rectified and hot rod, i thought that might be a little confusing!)
