It's good, pretty much what a Strat is made for. Pretty similar to Mike McCreedy's tone on Pearl Jam's 'Yellow Ledbetter'. I guess the two of them were just ripping off Hendrix!

lol i've never been one to say "he's ripping his TONE off!" because it's like...theres only so many sound combinations you can get from using a strat and a marshall ya know lol but, i do agree it is very hendrixy, and thats because hendrix is one of his biggest idols....and you DEFINITLY hear that in under the bridge alone, ya know? but as for awesome tones, i think you should check out anything off Mothers Milk thats a clean tone..because for the life of me, I can't figure out how he gets such a juicy fat clean tone out of the strat..on songs like subway to venus, it just sounds so good

Mother's milk. Great album. Even though others didn't, I like One hot minute as well. Navarro had some good stuff. diff. but good imo.

A few things here:

1) I think Frusciante is a decent player, though I don't get what all the fuss is about.

2) Though I'm not a huge Yngwie fan at all, I don't think it's true to say that he plays with no soul. Yes, he plays very fast, and if that's "no soul" to someone, then ok. But I for one hear a lot of fire and passion in his playing. Granted though, he really hasn't needed to make any more albums since the first one, because quite a bit of it all sounds the same to me.

3) As far as tone is concerned ... wow .. I guess to each his own. His tone on "Under the Bridge" sounds small and overly-compressed to me. It sounds puny. I don't know ... I'm not saying it's his fault. Maybe it was a good tone while he was tracking, but I think the engineer/producer totally ruined it by compressing the living crap out of it. Same thing on the newer stuff like "Scar Tissue" and things like that. They're nice riffs, but someone get that compressor away from him!

Anyway ... like I said, to each his own.

:D

I think the peppers vibe with guitar tone is pretty sadistic. It's just enough gain to make it happen, but too much gain would be too fullfilling. Navarro uses a lot more gain, which made their sound too fat, taking up too much sonic air. I dig Navarro, for sure, I just feel their "sound" is defined more by the energy and groove of a song, rather than a bitchin guitar tone.

Frusciante is vry hard to listen to for me.Infact the whole band is.The singer
(if you want to call him that)sucks.Never mind that he is off pitch 99% of
the time, his voice is about as musical as two rocks in a blender.
Flea manages to lock in with the drums on at least 3 tunes out of there mundane discography, but at heart he is a guitarist trying to play bass,so
that aint to bad.Always wondered why the drummer bothered with sub par
musicians.
WTF IS WRONG with people these days?Lack of ability and a fucking Digitech Whammy=good tone and playing? That motherfucker does not have Hendrix tone, and never will.phhhshit! Why would anyone aspire to suckdom?

I take that back, it was directed at that guy......

Meany!

:D

WOW! I know a lot of people who think they collectively bring on the suck, but Flea at leasts gets a nod. BTW Flea is a Trumpet player who ended up on bass, not a guitar player.

As for JF not ripping off/homaging Hendrix's tone and phrasing.......... check out this clip at 3:45

i think some people here take this shit way too seriously (it's the internet people, calm down) and I really think it's funny getting negative feedback from some moron who didn't even POST in the topic; he just felt the need to handout negative feedback to people who like john. nobody here claims he's the best, and some people, rather than sit here and rip apart a band on the INTERNET, need to chill the fuck out and realize "to each his own."

true that! and I think frusciante has far surpassed anything most people can do as a guitarist. despite whether he is a great guitarist or not (which, imo, he is ;)) how many people know of the chili peppers? A whole hell of a lot more than know my name! :)

RHCP are a band I've not been able to get into at any stage of their career. From image to sound I just can't get into it. I know they're popular & part of the rebellious funky in your face scene of the 90's but I can't get into it. I usually get a giggle out of their deep & meaningful pop ballad career anyway.

Hate his slide playing.

Otherwise I appreciate it but find RHCP mostly unremarkable.

see, these are normal comments lol i understand its not easy to like RHCP, because they def have sold out with their latest. but I think their 80's shit was great; i enjoy that early funk with meaningless lyrics...most funk had meaningless lyrics in the 70s anyway lol

ya, I think their older stuff was far more exceptional. (maybe not exceptional, exactly:D) I think, imo, it was the cool grooves they could pull out. The same reason i love early incubus. imo, Fungus Amongus was great. I still love Science. I can't stand their new "kiss me sweetly" shit. same as chili peppers.

I understand that most bands evolve throughout the years... but we grew something useful.
thumbs.
not an extra heart to bog down the blood flow... the beat.

but then again, I am a fan of uptempo music.
