Does anyone here use these pickups? Do they offer vintage strat sounds? Whazzup wit'em!?!

Great but expensive !

I think the reason you don't see many is that they are so expensive, $100 TO $150 each. They are side by sidehumbuckers with rails that fit in single coil rout. I've heard nothing but good things about them. They are much hotter than standard single coils and some models are suppose to sound like vintage single coils, although I dought it could sound exactly like a single coil using side buy side coils. Danny Gatton's tele had these pickups, if you've ever heard him. Seymore Duncan and Dimarzio both have a simalar pickup for less.

Yeah, but don't expect single coil sound out of the Dimarzio's. Just can't do it. Can't speak on the Seymour Duncan, but I expect the same. I guess it's like any imitation, comes close, like 80%, but it's that last 20% that make all the differnce. I was just reading about the Barden's. The experimenter in me would like to try them, but I'm not sure the cost will be worth it. I've come to the conclusion if you want single coil sound you gotta use a single coil and live with the annoyances. I'm restoring a Les Paul for the Fat Humbucker thing and probably change my single coil guitar back to true single coils.

Single coil sound

The closest I've ever heard to a single coil from a humbucker was the dimarzio virtuals and Fender noiseless. Of coarse all single coils don't sound the same either.

Bill Lawrence

First Kinman's now Bill Lawrence 280's. I just ordered them so it'll probably be another week before they come in. I hope these are "the ones", I made sure that the poles will align with my string spacing on these. We'll see what happens... I just spent $260 or more for those Kinmans so the price of Lawrence's is one factor in my decision ($40 a piece.) One thing about the Barden's that I dont like is the fact that Joe kept telling me that his pickups are perfect for every player, every sound, every type of music.. I just didnt buy it, wouldn't everybody be using them if that's the case even if they do cost over $300. I just didnt feel right about that comment. But Joe seems nice and is helpful even if he is biased.. Oh and if anyone wants to talk guitar, amps, pickups and stuff give Bill Lawrence a call (toll free number on his website) He'll talk your ears off if you figure out his German (I think) accent. It was like a history class talking to him, "back in the 40's it was like this... pickups were.. and amps were..." I think he really has been there and done that, hopefully his pickups will show for it.
