seriously, a lot of people ask for opinions, but only want praise
I know what you mean giraffe, as long as people aren't rude I'm all for an opinion, a few of my alltime favourite critiques I've got on songs are some of the one's that were not rave reviews. You know, take it all in stride, at the end of the day the writer or band still decides what they want to do.
What was the drum tracking setup?
Mallcore, the drum tracking was down with a AKG package mostly.
AKG D112 - offset slightly from the beater likely 6 plus inches from the source for the Kick, I want to experiment with a wooden beater next time on the drum instead of felt, and I've heard you can put something where the beater hits the skin to give it more of a clack
AKG C1000 S - for the overheads... panned left and right
AKG C 418 - Little clip on mics for the toms and I put one on the snare, next time I'm going to try to set a clip on mic under the snare,
I also have a Shure SM57 on the snare, which is the main snare mic I use, usually on a 45 angle to the snare.
We need to really experiment with the sound at the source. Been doing a lot of reading and am itching to try some new things with the next batch of songs we track.
What'd you use for the vocals?
Megaman for the vocals a Studio Projects C1 was used. Thanks for listening
Cool song. Has a 60's feel to they lyrics but with more of an edge. I agree with giraffe's comments earlier about mix and performance details. With the vox, the line "The old man and I wager on..." is pretty flat but that's the only place I'm noticing it. Some good guitar sounds, vocals and songwriting here.
Thanks Tim, appreciate the critique.
