Hi, I trying to find out about a JLCooper CS10 midi controller.

I have a chance to pick one up that's in excellent condition.... for cheap.
I know it's discontinued, so don't remind me....please.

Has any body ever used one?
I'm not really into midi, BUT was planning on useing it with PTs v5 and OS 9.1 on a Mac.

Anybody have an opinon?
The sooner the better, before he sells to someone else!

thanks, h

First of all, this is what came up when I googled it --- the CS10 II.

First, make sure that pt 5 accepts part of the midi protocol called 'continuous controllers' and download the manual from the link above to make sure that there is a pt 5 template included. Then, if there's no manual with the used one that you're getting (I'm assuming) be sure to reinitialize it to the factory presets. There will probably be instructions in the manual about how to do this.

If you don't know much about midi you'll probably find it quite frustrating to set up, but once you get it set up it won't be difficult to use to tie into the on-screen faders.

Good luck.

We had one on PT 4.3 and when we upgraded to PT5.1 on OS 9.2 I threw it in the trash.

Mind explaining yourself a little better?

Did you discard the unit because it didn't function with the new revision of the software?

Or because you just got tired of it?

Or because it was broken in some way?

Or because it just plain pissed you off?

I think it had an 8 pin serial connector. Digi I think refers to this as "legacy" product, even though it's not one of there products. I think you would be better off with a Command/8. Nobody ever used it. Nothing wrong with Cooper products. Also got rid of our Micro Lynx control for Digi Machine Control, even though the Micro L is a superior product. Just trying to keep it simple.

Oh yeah.

I forget that pt was just recently blessed with the universal conectivity that midi allows quite recently and the every piece of hardware had to conform to Digidesigns proprietary standard before that.

hazkell, scratch what I said about midi conncectivity.

Digidesign were too closed, too proprietaty and too foolish to include midi in versions of pt until very recently, and that means the CS10 actually IS an outmoded, out of date 'legacy' product as far as pt is concerned.

If you were running, say, Cubase or Reason or Tracktion or Live or Sonar, or Logic or DP on a Mac it would still be a viable product as a midi controller.
