First class my friend. you have that "whisky voice" ala Tom Waits. Very cool.

Good mix. I've been hearing a few good jazzy tunes here lately. About a week ago it was all those great mellow acoustic songs. I guess trends change here too :D

No comments about the mix. Can't think of anything bad to say, so I won't say anything :D Good vocals.

nice intimate feel.... right in the first row of a small room... ah... the lyrics are "alternative"... talking about death as a caress, etc... cool...

...songs like yours make a guy want to try his hand at that loungy-jazz stuff... very nice.

Wow guys! I'm truly bowled over by your comments. I had a lot of fun doing this one. I hadn't posted anything for close to 2 years, and I appreciate the welcome back to the forum.

Gidge: Thanks for the listen. I wasn't hounding you in the other threads to get you to check it out, just to be a little easier on yourself! ;) My current recording gear is a Fostex VM88 8 channel digital mixer into a Terratec EWS88 card via lightpipe. The usual hodgepodge of low-end mics. I've been using Samplitude for years, but when I build a newer, faster machine I'm thinking about switching to Cubase. I upgraded my setup after my last post here several years ago... I had a Mackie 1604 VLZ Pro & a Lexicon Core 2, but the Lexicon was so unstable that I wasn't able to get anything done, not to mention it wasting my registry to the point that my machine wouldn't even boot to windows - part of the reason I haven't posted in so long... had to come up with the green for usable gear.

Thanks for the comments on the drums and vocals. That's one of my first "live" drum mixes for my own stuff - I've contributed a few tracks to others, but sent 'em the raw files to mix as they saw fit. I'm happy it seems to have turned out ok.

Trackrat: I'm only 32, but "back in the day" I earned that whiskey voice with much hard work (on the whiskey, that is...) :D

On the bass & vinyl noise: I was kind of feeling the bass was a bit low in the mix, but in my room here it's a bit hard to tell. (read: out of practice) I was trying to play it safe.
Even my wife agrees that the volume and fade on the intro isn't quite there yet... (and she's not really a music person) I think I'll nix it.

I think I'll step aside now and let this thread run its course.

Many thanks again.

Depressingly Beautiful! Harkens you back to steamy and smokey
NYC jazz clubs of the 70's! Would have luv'd to hear a walkin' bass-line progression but sit's well in the perf.
I even liked the "STATIC" in the beginning giving the impression of an old-school, vinyl jazz album be played at 78 rpm on an old
Victrola! Drums could sit back a notch so your most excellent vocs
and ebony/ivory playing controlled the flow!
You hit this lil p-diddy nicely!

damn, that was good!! I was listening and thinkin, hell Dr John could walk up and sit down and do a swap phrase on another verse with him. Damned good aura and theme.

I second the Tom Waits comparison. Very nice.

Somehow I thought that "blessing you" line should have been, "undressing you" but that's just me.... :)

Yo Jittery Joe (best coffe shop ever)-This is a great tune-great vocal track-nice drum sound. I would have liked the bass sticking out some more but oh well...Reminds me of Tom Waits a bit-which is a very good thing. Very nice job from a fellow Georgian!

I love the 78 at the beginning ... gives this tune a real old-fashioned feel to it...

Has a great groove. Your vocals are perfect for this tune (kind of gritty ... that just got up in the morning sound and it really works here)

My only feedback may be to bring out the bass just a tad more in the mix...imhop...

Very nice playing. :)
