Just got back from Oakland. Man, what a show. Robben Ford is just a total joy to listen to. Jimmy Haslip is a terrific bassist. Vinnie Colauita is an astonishing drummer (my traps-playing friend commented that he must have a separate brain in each limb to be able to play so freely). The special guest, keyboardist Otmario Ruiz, was excellent.
Judging by the grins in evidence on stage, everyone was pleased with the way things were going. It hardly even bothered Ford when the sound guy failed to turn his vocal mike back on after the guitar solo during the one vocal tune of the first set.
As well as they played in the first set, they came out at 10 pm and took it up even higher.
They are recording the week's sets for a live album.
